The following Blu-ray was provided to me by Warner Brothers for review. Opinions are my own.
Annabelle Creations is the prequel to of course Annabell, the evil demonic doll from The Conjuring Series. It's tells the origin of Annabell and why it is evil.
In 1943 Samuel and Esther Mullins are with there young daughter Annabelle when there car breaks down. Annabell tries to wave an on coming car down but in run down and killed in the process. On night they are visited by a strange entity that convinces the couple it is Annabelle's spirit, and that they could transfer this spirit into on of the dolls that Samuel makes. Overcome with both joy and grief the couple do just that but soon see that it is an evil demon and not in fact there daughter's spirit. After a struggle they lock the now possessed doll in Anabelle's old room in a closet, wallpaper it in and have it blessed so it can never escape.
We then cut forward 12 years to where a group of orphans and the nun caring for them have come to stay with the Mullins. They are welcomed with open arms but told to never go in Annabelle's room. Of course one night one of the girls does and finds the doll, who now wants to transfer into her.
Thus begins a sequence of jump scares, loud crashing music to signal terror, fast camera cuts and a hint of gore, which is what this series is know for. And to there credit it works well. My wife jumped several times.
The visuals and audio are fantastic, as every scene comes to life. Throw in the amazing score and the suspense levels are then cranked up to 11.
Fans of the films (The Conjuring ones included) will enjoy learning the Dolls evil origin and fans of the demon based horror genre will love it as well. Throw in a cool twist ending and you have a good horror film on your hands. And don't forget to watch the credits for a mid cut scene
Overall 3 out of 5 Stars
