For a guy who doesn't go out of his way to watch giallos I've sure watched quiet a few in the last few days. Today's film is also courtesy of our freinds over at Mondo Macabro. Its a Spanish Giallo directed by Jose Maria Forque titled The Fox With A Velvet Tail.
This is the story of Ruth, in the beginning she leaves her husband to run off with a man named Paul. They head over to her beach house and of course have sex, then do all kinds of fun stuff like swimming, boating, riding dune buggys. Everything is going great.
Sadley it doesn't stay great as Paul's friend shows up and bad things start to happen at the hands of a black leather gloved psycho. Suddenyl Ruth begins having accedent, her car breaks go out, her diving equipment is tampered with and she almost dies. Slowly she becomes increasingly paranoid. Is her husband trying to kill her? Is it his friend who just happened to show up? Possibly another gold digging woman? Her ex out for revenge? Guess you'll have to watch and see.
The film has a very unusual score for a Giallo. It's like cocktail lounge music from the 70s which works in the way it seems to sleaze things up. So take the porn style score and mix it in with what is truly amazing cinematography and you truly get a quote un quote stylized thriller.
The cast works well together and never overacts to the point the film becomes corny. It's all well done and has a few good twist and turns to keep you guessing.
Mondo Macabro has put this out on Blu-ray and the new transfer really brings the colors and sounds to life. Special features on the disc are as follows
A good film, with, a good cast, and enough to keep you guessing make this a good one to add to your collection
Overall 3 out of 5 Stars
