The following Blu-ray was provided to me by Warner Brothers for review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
My wife is a big Originals fan, which of course means I have to watch it. It's a spin off of the Vampires Diary's, a show I used to enjoy untill Klaus became the bad guy for way to long. Klaus left to begin his own story in the Originals but the damag had already been done for me.
The Originals follows Klaus and his family to New Orleans where they basically try to reclaim there spot as the head family of the supernatural. Klaus is a cool character as he's a vampire/werewolf cross, and even though he's pure evil Joseph Morgan has enough charisma to make him likable. The Originals finished off it's network run with season 5
The fifth season is a time jump, taking place seven years after season four ended. It centers around Klaus's daughter Hope. She misses her father and helps bring him back to New Orleans. the entire family has been split up to different parts of the world. But Klaus manages to bring them back together as the dark magic that separated the family is spilling out of control.
With many Vampire diaries references and the return of one of that's shows central characters season 5 moves along at a fast pace and offers fans a fitting end to the series and the characters as well. Season 5 was a midseason show, so there are only 13 episodes. It's a fitting ending to not only The Originals, but the end of vampire shows on The CW.
Warner Brothers has done their usual great job on the transfer with this Blu-ray. The video and audio quality are higher than when this originally aired. It looks and sounds great and this Blu-ray is a much better way to binge watch as opposed to streaming.
If you are a fan you will pick this up to complete the collection. If you have never watched it. Start from the beginning, and by beginning I mean season two of the Vampire Diaries. Even though this is a time jump it will make absolutely no sense if you havent watched from the beginning.
It's a great set and I really have to applaud the final episode as it brought closure to everything and everyone. It was not left open for hopes of coming back. It's actually an episodic show that had a good final episode. Most do not. In fact I can only this of 4 other ones. Definitely worth watching
Overall 3 out of 5 Stars
