This PVC Diorama is not actual size!\n
If anything, this 9-inch scale sculpture of The Wasp is much bigger than the character will appear in the highly anticipated 2018 superhero sequel, Ant-Man & The Wasp. Featuring the heroine launching herself into action on a pair of wings, this sculpture features detailed sculpting by Dave Cortes based on a design by Nelson X. Asencio. Each comes packaged in a full-color window box. Displays with Ant-Man to form a larger diorama.
The Wasp statue from Diamond Select Toys is pretty cool. Not only is it a stand-alone statue but as it has the same dirt style base it’s made to put behind your Ant-Man statue to give it the full effect of having both tiny heroes in battle pose ready to fight the bad guys. It captures the look of the film, but done with the same bright colors as Ant-Man was to give it that comic book style.
The head of course is the helmet. It’s done in the standard bright silver with dark etchings flowing throughout. The antennas are placed on the ear sets and the circular mouth piece is in full effect. The one thing I really dig about this on is the visor. It’s shaded in a vibrant yellow and orange splash design. I’m not sure if it’s to mimic the Quantum Realm, but I don’t care. It looks amazing. As the helmet is not done overly bright this visor makes it spring to life. It’s a fantastic choice of colors to add to this look. The way the shading is done it almost has an otherworldly glow about it.
Going down you can see the full metallic body suite. Just like its fashioned in the film it’s done in Black, red, and gold. I really like how the gold in the red lines is bright and shiny whereas the gold on the armor style chest and ab plate is a more dull color. It helps to separate the tones of the mechanical outfit. Everything is sculpted to show the muscles underneath the outfit and it has that leather style etching and shading to make it movie realistic.
From the back you get the perfect shot of the wings. All sculpted to look like a real insect wing, it’s a beautiful blending of white, black, and silver. It looks really nice under a light as you can see the combination of insect wing, and manmade wing blended together. Rounded at the tips these look fantastic. They look so real the stature actually looks like it is floating. You can see all the fingers are sculpted as Wasp is clenching her fists ready for battle. Her silver wrist bands are in full view and help give the arms a splash of color. I would have liked to see a bit more insect design blended into the wing
Moving to the base you can see her simple black boots. Nothing to fancy but then again they aren’t fancy in the films either. As I stated the base is just like Ant-Mans. A piece of dirt with rocks and other elements shaded and blended into it. Wasp is resting atop a small mound in this little pile. It’s painted exactly like the Ant-Man so when you place this one behind it merges perfectly. It’s a great choice for a base as is shows off that the Wasp is in small form, and plain, yet showy enough to not take away from the main piece.
Overall this is another fine piece for your Marvel movie collection. I recommend picking it up along with Ant-Man and positioning them together in your display. Yes display. Don’t leave these treasures in a box. Open them up and show them off. This is another winner from Diamond Select Toys. Pick it up now.
