Angela has almost a two part origin as she first was used by Todd McFarlane in his Spawn comics. She was then awarded to Neil Gaiman during a lawsuit between the two and moved over to Marvel Comics. This Statue represents the Marvel design but here is a brief origin Angela is an angel and a bounty hunter, working under the auspices of Heaven to oppose Spawn. She attempted to kill Spawn upon their first meeting, but was defeated despite her significantly greater experience. Later, he came to her aid during her trial in Heaven, where he testified that she had permission to kill him. They were temporarily trapped in a pocket dimension when Spawn's cloak acted to protect him from her weapons. Spawn's restructuring of reality allowed them to return from the pocket dimension, and also erased Angela's 'permit' to use her weapons against him. While returning to Earth they started a romantic relationship. However, Angela was killed during the battle with Malebolgia. Spawn returned her body to the angels, who presumably brought her back to life.
During the Age of Ultron storyline, Angela is revealed to be alive and has been pulled from Heaven as a result of Wolverine's damage to the Omniverse. In a combination of rage and confusion, she charges towards Earth from outer space, only to be intercepted by the Guardians of the Galaxy, leading to her joining the team.
During the Original Sin storyline, it is revealed that she is Aldrif, the daughter of Odin and Freyja, making her sister to Thor and Loki. She was "killed" as an infant during Asgard's war with the Angels of the Tenth Realm called "Heven." This crime resulted in Odin severing the Tenth Realm from the other nine as punishment for their attack. Thor learns of his sister's existence when he is exposed to the secrets of Uatu, the Watcher's eye, by the Orb. He returns to Asgard to confront his mother about his sister's existence, and subsequently travels to the Tenth Realm with Loki to learn more about his sister
My Spawn collection of statues is basically zero, but my Marvel one is high. So I had no problem finding a spot for Angela. She’s a great character in the Marvel Universe, especially paired with Thor, which is exactly who this statue sits next to on the shelf
First take note that this is a side view statue, hence the pose. I'm going to start with the face. It's perfect I can't say anything else. It looks like the drawing has come to life. From the lips to the eyes to the warrior mask this is amazing on every level. Lips, nose, cheekbones you name it. It's perfectly sculpted and painted to look like a comic book drawing. The red hair looks great with the golden helmet mixed into it. It looks great as the hair is sculpted like it's blowing. Its not a simple paint job. The bright red on the lips and on the mask around the eye is really bright which adds to the comic touch.
Moving down you can see the almost bombshell design. Her hair, and part of her band hangs down over the shoulder draped over her armor. The armor is etched and colored very bright. Gold, and Silver but if you look closely its also speckled throughout to give it a brighter look. I really like the attention to detail when it comes to the arm reaching around as you can see the muscle under the armpit as well as the twist in the abdomen. That combined with the shading really make this pop. Notice how the thigh is even shaded to give it a comic book look. I mean even the belt is etched and shaded to give it a roughed up leather look. Everything just looks like its flowing.
Looking a the front, or in this case side you get a better look at the costume. The chest plate armor and boots match in a vibrant gold color also with the speckles throughout. The skin is shaded and you can see a giant part of the reddish orange hair blowing off to the side. You get a nice look at the boot design here as you can see the lines etched throughout. Notice the sculpting and shading on the legs again. Everything is smooth like a comic drawing, yet anatomically correct in terms of shape and muscle. The black band around the right leg really gives it a good stand out look. The sword as you can see is very well done. It looks just like her sword in the comics. The gold tipped brown handle looks great, and the fact its angled makes it look even more threatening. Notice the purple gloves. Each finger is individually done to give it the extra touch. I would want to display this side forward, but then I couldn’t see her head.
Here is shot from the other side to give you a better look at the sword. You can see its starting to come out of the sheath. The sword is a dirty silver color with the gold speckled armor around the tip with a blue green jewel in the center. The sheath itself is wood looking in grain and etching. It also has the matching gold and blue green jewel on the bottom as well as the golden armor markings on the top. It’s a great blend of grey, mixed with various browns. I really like the red wrist band on the hand with the purple gloves. Its not only comic accurate but it but because of the bright bold colors it really makes everything stand out.
From the back you can see how the big hair flows down past the shoulders to the end of the back. One thing you have to take notice of is the muscle sculpting under the white leg wrap. The wrap in question looks fantastic as it’s a bright white and you can clearly see all the folds and bends thanks to the shading and sculpting. You can also see where the legs would be under the wrap because of the way its folded in parts. That is true attention to detail . That along with the fantastic painting and shading give it not only a real look, but true to the comic at the same time.
The base is simple yet effective. A small piece of rock with blue green crystals raising out of both sides. It's shaded in to look like a dirt and sand have formed over the rock . Adding the small crystal is simple, yet just enough to give it a slight touch of color
Overall this is yet another amazing statue from Diamond Select Toys. I couldn't wait to open mine and place it right next to my comic book style Thor, which I previously reviewed. Collectors need to go out and add this to their collection now.
Overall 5 out of 5 Stars
