The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man as you know is one of the main enemies in the ghostbusters film. He’s the manifest of Ray Stantz memories and comes to life thanks to Gozer the Gozerian in the first film. He later ends up befriending the Ghostbusters during the animated series The Real Ghostbusters. Well as Diamond Select Toys has been putting out an amazing line of Ghostbusters figures it was only natural the make a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. And as New York Comic Con was going on it was only natural that Diamond Select have some exclusive items for the big show. One of those is the Scared Stay Puft variant.
Mr. Stay Puft is all here in his scared glory. Just like the films, and cartoons he’s decked out in his sailor outfit complete with red neckerchief. I love the wide scared expression on the face. It’s a simple black mouth with just a hint of white shaded into the side to give it a bit of depth. The cheek bones are puffed out under his eyes which are perfect black circles made slightly larger to give it a surprised look of fear. The eyebrows, although the same color are molded up and sticking out to give the piece a three dimensional look. His little Stay Puft hat is sitting to the left of his head, and his little sailor collar on top of his chest. It’s a fun little piece, that’s actually something you can play with.
This side shot gives you a look at a great bit of shading. As Mr. Stay Puft is basically bright white Diamond Select used a light variation of blue to give it a few shaded highlights. Very noticeable on the wrist and fingers this figure has a little bit of movement capable on the forearm. But as he is a giant marshmallow that really just lumbers around he’s not overly articulate. I really like the blue style of shading as it puts a bit of color into the piece without taking away it’s a big marshmallow.
The feet are just rolls of marshmallow fat essentially. Smooth, with a touch again of the blue shading around his ankle area. It stands really flat and firm and as you can tell is a good sized figure. You can have him battle your other figures, or if you’re a collector you can display him. He comes packed in a cover box so you can lift the cover to display the figure, or you can do what I do and just take him out. My son plays with him, then stand him with his other figures. It’s a really cool piece. If you could not make it to comic con you may get lucky and find one on Ebay. Hurry and find one now though before they shoot up to high in price. A fun toy or a fun statue you take your pick.
Overall 5 out of 5 Stars!
