A Woman's Torment Blu-ray Review

11/3/2017

Picture
‘The deranged descent of a woman unchained’

So reads the tagline for the hardcore classic A Woman's Torment a 1977 erotic horror film that has developed a rather large cult following over the years. Chock full of gore and nudity the film is highly regarded among the Grindhouse community.

It's about a mentally challenged woman named Karen. She live with her sister Francis and Brother in law Don. Having her around is starting to really take a toll on Don and Frances's marriage, their love life in particular.

One night when Don insists she be locked up in the Looney bin Karen overhears this, freaks out and runs away. She ends up at an empty beach house and starts having weird hallucinations while showering. Someone shows up and she ends end having random sex and then killing him. In fact that's how the film progresses. Sex, murder, sex murder, and so on.

The film is definitely adults only. It's full of nudity and the murder scenes are full of blood and gore. Old school practical effects. It was rated X when it originally came out, which by today's standards seems a but much.

Heavily vhs traded back in the day Vinegar Syndrome has just released this on Blu-ray and they have given it plenty of special features

Region free Blu-ray/DVD combo pack
• Newly scanned and restored in 2k from the 35mm negative
• Commentary track with Roberta Findlay (writer/director/producer)
• Video interview with Michael Gaunt (actor)
• Includes both the X and R rated edits
• Quad Cinema screening Q&A with Roberta Findlay

Hardcore, dirty, sleazy, bloody, you name it, this has it all. Like I said adults only, but definitely one to watch

Overall 3.5 out of 5 Stars
