Arrow The Complete Sixth Season Blu-ray Review

8/6/2018

The following Blu-ray was provided to me by Warner Brothers for review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

When Arrow first started it quickly became my favorite television series. The first season was unlike anything ever done on tv superhero wise. The second season managed to top the first one 10 fold, and imo is one of the best story arcs in any episodic show. Then the third season came and went, then the fourth season, then the fifth which decided to introduce a whole new crop of characters to join Team Arrow. Problem is myself, and everyone else hates those characters. Then season six came and tried to bring the show back to it's darker roots.

Season six finds Oliver, now left to care for his son William after the events of part 5. His team, who I still hate are splintered about and now he has to contend with Cayden James. The hacker Felicity helped escape ARGUS in season five. James has a pretty basic plan of blackmail. Hold the city hostage get a lot of money and disappear. He recruits Black Siren (Evil Laurel from Earth X) Anatoli (Oliver's old Russian friend), and Ricardo Diaz a high profile gang leader.

I won't really ruin much by saying the show pulls a fast one and eliminates Cayden James half way through revealing Ricardo Diaz as this seasons big bad guy. He's using his criminal money to put all of the cops, and even high ranking politicians of Star City on his payroll. his goal is simply to take over Star City and run an international criminal empire out of it. Oliver of course must overcome the odds against him and somehow get his team back together to stop this. He must also contend with a nasty FBI agent who wants to arrest him for being the Green Arrow

There were a few high points in season six. We saw a two episode return of Deathstroke, the return of Roy Harper, and part two of the yearly Arrowverse crossover in which Oliver, Flash, Supergirl, and The Legends of Tomorrow must battle their supervillain doppelgangers from Earth X. On a side note. That crossover needs to be released as an edited together film. I would put it up there with any big screen superhero film to date. It was that amazing.

The action scenes are still fantastic, and the acting is well done, and yes this season is an improvement over the last two but it's still not coming back together the way it was the first two seasons. However the cliffhanger ending of this season sets up what should be a great story arc for season seven, which could be it's last.

The Blu-ray is presented in the same high quality that the weekly show airs in and in my opinion is the only way to binge or re-watch it as I feel the video quality goes down a notch when you use Netflix. Blu-ray is still the way to go an this one looks great. It even has special features.

  • The Best of DC TV’s Comic-Con Panels San Diego 2017
  • The Split of a Man: Deathstroke
  • Inside the Crossover: Crisis on Earth-X
  • Revenge in Ones and Zeros: The Story of Cayden James

If your a fan you will want to add this to your collection. It's an improvement over the last two years. However it's not a jumping on point. I hope the ending of this season really does give the upcoming seventh season the boost it needs.

Overall 3 out of 5 Stars!
