Black Lightning Season One Blu-ray Review

6/19/2018

Picture
The following Blu-ray set was provided to me by Warner Brothers for review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
I collect comics. I have since I was around 6 years old, I'm now in my 40's. To say that I love that these books are now major motion pictures and acclaimed television shows would be an understatement. I love the CW Comic book shows. And the newest addition, Black Lightning is no exception. Although not part of the "Arrowverse" at least not yet Black Lightning is based on the popular DC character.

Black Lightning is actually Jefferson Pierce. He's a metahuman who can manipulate energy. Basically he can throw and punch lightning. He was a superhero years back but he retired and became a High School Principal. He lives a semi quiet life raising his two daughters. He made a promise to his ex wife years ago that he would stop being Black Lightning and for the last 9 years he has done so in hopes of getting his family back together.

Sadly that all goes south when his youngest daughter gets mixed up with a powerful gang called The 100 who run the crime in the city. Jefferson is forced to use his powers to save her.  Things take a further turn for the worse when after a school altercation his daughters are kidnapped by The 100. That's all that Jefferson can Handel and he becomes Black Lightning again to save his girls and clean up his city.

Luckily as the season progresses Black Lightning has help from his daughters as they develop powes of there own. Jennifer, his youngest is also able to manipulate energy. He oldest daughter, Annissa, can create shockwaves, and has super strength. She eventually teams up with her father as Thunder.

This is a fantastic show. Part street level superhero, part government conspiracy this first season flys right by. Sadly it's only 13 episode's but all 13 are exceptionally done and are perfect to binge watch.

Warner Brothers has released the first season on Blu-ray. It contains all 13 episode's as well as special features.

The Resurrection

LaWanda: The Book of Hope

LaWanda: The Book of Burial

Black Jesus

And Then the Devil Brought the Plague: The Book of Green Light

Three Sevens: The Book of Thunder

Equinox: The Book of Fate

The Book of Revelation

The Book of Little Black Lies

Sins of the Father: The Book of Redemption

Black Jesus: The Book of Crucifixion

The Resurrection and the Light: The Book of Pain

Shadow of Death: The Book of War

You don't have to be a superhero fan to enjoy Black Lightning. It's fantastic from top to bottom. I've said it before and I'll say it again. DC has television shows down to a science and Black Lightning is no exception. Head out and pick this up.

Overall 4 out of 5 Stars
