Dear White People Season One DVD Review

5/18/2018

Picture
Dear White People, the critically acclaimed Netflix Series, based on the film of the same name is a real treat and is something you should either binge watch on Netflix or on the recently released DVD of season 1.
The show takes place in Winchester University a fictitious Ivy league school thats predominantly white. In a unique turn each episode revolves around a different character, which is a nice touch as were able to get dto know the entire cast. It's much in the being or the way Orange is the New Black is filmed.

The show centers around Sam White and her college radio show "Dear White People" she has been using the show to point out racial indiscretions around the campus.

At the same time, to protest her show a group of white students who write a satirical Onion type magazine decide to throw a "Blackface" party. This set up further racial tensions and provided a backdrop for the season.

The show deals with the difficulty of being light skinned,  relationship issues, racism, and more. The cast is fantastic and the fact episodes are designed to focus on a different character for each one the cast is not only able to shine, but you are able to get to know the characters on a personal level.

Great show, and a great release

Overall 3 out of 5 Stars
