Devil's Gate Blu-ray Review

6/3/2018

Every once and a while a film comes out that for one reason or another is destined to be a cult classic. Devil's Gate is one of those titles. Starring Milo Ventimiglia from This Is Us fame as small town weirdo and religious zelot Jackson Pritchard.

He lives with his wife and son on his family farm. It's more so a dried up area that looks like Leatherface's house though. But Jackson has faith that an angel will come down and make everything better. When his wife and son vanish the FBI comes to this little hick town to investigate.

As Jackson is a weirdo he is of course the prime suspect. However upon further investigation we begin to learn that inside Jackson's basement there lives something very evil and possibly supernatural.

With an opening scene straight out of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and paying a fabulous homage to the great satanic panic horror films of the 80's Devil's Gate is a really great film that, thanks to a lot of overacting will no doubt become the cult film it was meant to be.

Great performances fantastically done on the cheap effects, and a pretty cool twist in the story this is a great one for fans of horror and supernatural to check out. Released under the IFC banner from Scream Factory the film looks great. The transfer really gives it a modern day yet still in the 80's vibe. I really appreciate how great the tone and look of the film comes out.

Great fun, great time, definitely worth watching. My advice is to head out and pick this one up.

Overall 3 out of 5 Stars
