Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Blu-ray Review

3/3/2019

The following Blu-ray was provided to me by Warner Brother for review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Harry Potter franchise including all it's spin off titles is one of the highest grossing franchise of all time. It's Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was the 10th highest grossing film of 2018 proving the magic so to speak is still going strong.

The film starts with the title character Gellert Grindelwald on his way to prison. He is able to escape and flees the country. The film then picks up a few months later with Newt Scamander trying to get his travel rights reinstated by the Department of Magic Enforcement. They agree but only of Newt will help Theasus Leatrange find a blood wizard named Credence Barebone. I must say real quick these names are just insane. He refuses this at first but after some proding by Dumbledore is finally persuaded to do so.

What follows is an unbelievable amount of twists and turns and I don't mean that in a great way. From wizard Circus shows to the rights of wizards and muggles being allowed to marry to baby switching this film has more turns than a year's worth of daytime soap operas.

I will admit I am very hit or miss when it comes to watching these films so I was basically confused and overwhelmed with backstory in the beginning. As I get further into the story I began to enjoy it more. I love Johnny Depp and seeing him in any role is always a plus as he brings such a wealth of amazing acting to any story.

The special effects are out of this world. This is a true big budget heavy cgi movie. I would say that zero effects in this are of the practical variety. It's all cgi but it looks amazing and never manages to overdue it to the fact it hurts the story.

Warner Brothers has done a great job on this transfer. The colors flow out of your television and the sound, and score for that matter are amazing. It echos from your surround sound and you feel like you are inside this film.

If your a fan of this series of films then it's a no brainier you will enjoy it. If your not familiar it's definitely worth watching. As I said i had a bit of a learning curve but it was a fun watch and a good one for the entire family.

Overall 3 out of 5 Stars!
