Gotham Season 4 Blu-ray Review

8/13/2018

The following Blu-ray was provided to me by Warner Brothers for review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

Let's be clear about 2 things right off the bat, no pun intended. Batman has been my favorite superhero since I was a small child. That will never change. And second I tried watching Gotham when it came out and didn't like it. Gordon without a mustache, a skinny Penguin, and a general reworking of a classic story just rubbed me the wrong way. But I stuck with it hoping that a storyline would hook me. Well that storyline happens in Season 4.

Season 4 starts off heavily with Oswald Cobblepot (The Penguin) being the main focal point as he continues to take over Gothams underworld. The Riddler and his new friend Solomon Grundy along with Jeremiah Crane are featured heavily as well. Ras A Ghul and his League of Assassin's are front and and center as well as throughout all these story's we see Bruce Wayne get closer and closer to finally becoming Batman. I won't lie, I cared less about any of it.

However towards the end of the season Jerome gets to once again take center stage as the main antagonist. I have to say he is played to utter perfection by Cameron Monaghan. Is he going to be the Joker? You do officially find out this season. He takes the lead in a story arc based on the No Man's Land story from the comics. It was done in The Dark Knight Rises movie, but the film really got it wrong. With his followers Jerome is able to plunge Gotham into anarchy thus paving the way for Bruce to realize he must become Gothams protector.

Like I said I'm not into this as I guess I'm to big of a comic nerd and Batman fan to watch a re telling of an origin story especially wen it doesn't back up the original comic versions. However if your a casual fan, or for that matter just a police drama fan you would enjoy this show.

Out of the 4 seasons that have aired so far this is definitely the best as it has the most "comic Book" feel to it. It's the set up for the fifth and final season, and it dies a great job setting up the events to come.

Warner Brothers has released this set on Blu-ray and as I always state if you want to binge get the Blu-ray, it's better quality than what you will stream.

Although well into the story arch season 4 can be jumped into pretty easily. And let me say this, if your like me and not a fan of the retelling pick it up for the Jerome No Man's Land story line. It really does it's comic book counterpart proud

Overall 2.5 out of 5 Stars
