Panther Girl of the Kongo

2/20/2017

Picture
What do I always say?  "I love serials" sadly when trying to show them to my son he finds them dull and goofy.  Its a sad statement for the current generation, but what can you do.  Every time a Serial gets cleaned up and get the Blu-ray or DVD treatment I have to get it.  Just this morning I sat down with Panther Girl of the Kongo, one that surprisingly enough I had never seen before.

This 12 Part Republican Serial is the story of Jean Evans, who is the Panther Girl of the Kongo.  She got that nickname by saving a tribe from a man eating panther.  Unfortunately this same tribe has now been targeted by giant crawfish monsters.  Evil mad Scientist Dr. Morgan has developed a super serum to turn normal creatures into gigantic monster creatures.

See what no one knows is that this land the Utanga Tribe live on contains a hidden diamond mine that the crazy Dr. wants for himself.  He has help not only from his giant crawfish but his two henchmen, Cass and Rand.  Unfortunately for him Jean Evans is being assisted by adventurer/hunter Larry Sanders.

The film is a fun yet typical 12 part serial, with chapter titles like "The Killer Beast", "River of Death", and "Crater of Flame"  its good clean fun that any fan of the genre will be sure to enjoy.  Traps, and chases in every chapter, and yes giant crawfish monsters.

Olive Films just released a beautifully restored version which I had a blast sitting through.  Usually I like to split serials up to add to the fun of the whole cliffhanger angle but I found myself sitting through the entire Blu-ray in one setting. Which clocks in at 2hrs and 48min.  I enjoyed every second of it, and you should to.  Its good campy fun fro beginning to end, and its well worth picking up.

Overall 3 out of 5 stars!
