Piranha 2 Blu-ray Review

7/2/2018

Picture
When most people think of James Cameron they think Avatar, Titanic or The Terminator. Well what they should be thinking about is the best flying Piranha killer fish movie ever made, Piranha 2 The Spawning. Yes, made about 5 years before Terminator Cameron made a film about mutated piranha that can fly. A seudo sequel to the original Piranha film, this one plays off a bit more tounge and cheek than the original.

The film starts off very basic. A couple leaves there hotel room to have sex out at sea. They stumble upon an area that holds a sunken ship which is actually the hiding space for a huge school of piranha that subsequently kill the couple.

The next day we meet Annie the hotels diving instructor and a few of the guest going out on a dive with her. Naturally they stumble accross the dead couple from the night before and call the local cops. She's more than freaked out because she is a expert on water life and can't tell what killed these people. Luckily we the audience don't have long to wait as when another killing, this time of a few women happen we learn it's the work of Piranha, but not just any piranha flying parana.

How can piranha fly? Well you find out how later the the film. How can they be stopped? Yea you find that out as well. And let me say it's a lot of fun to watch it all unfold.

There is plenty of blood and gore to keep the horror crowd happy, and the fact we are dealing with flying piranha is a sure fire pleaser for not only the monster film fan but fans of cheesy films as well. The piranha do look really good all these years later but they still look ahead of there time. Another treat is Lance Hendrickson in his role as a the small town sheriff.

A long sought after film, it's seen various releases over the years but now Scream Factory is bringing it out in a fully remastered special edition. With amazing audio and video this is definitely one to own. It's even got special features

  • NEW 2K Scan From The Original Camera Negative
  • NEW Interview With Actor Ricky Paull Goldin
  • NEW Interview With Special Effects Artist Brian Wade
Fun film that every horror and drive-in movie fan should add to their collection pick this on up on July 31st
Overall 3.5 out of 5 Stars
