Spider Blu-ray Review

8/29/2017

Picture

Mondo Macabro has done it again. Just went I think I've seen it all they send me a new title to review. Today's film in question is the 1991 film Spider aka Zirneklis a film that starts with a quote from Freud about sexuality then proceeded to be about a girl who has sex with a giant spider, but let's rewind a bit

Spider is the story of Vita a really attractive, young religious girl who lives with her mom. One day her priest introduces them to a rather creepy looking artist named Albert who notices Vita's beauty instantly. With the help of the priest he convinces her to post as the Virgin Mary for a painting he is doing.

Vita begins having sexual nightmares that seem to come to life. The most vivid is the one where she keeps having sex with a giant spider, she even awakens with spider bites on her body. Although these happen in the form of Nightmares, Vita seems to be aroused by them.

It doesn't take but a second to realize it's the painter Albert who is actually evil and is entering her dreams so to speak to corrupt her soul, even taking on the form of a giant spider.

As weird as it sounds it's not a cheesy film. The cinematography is beyond beautiful. The painting in Alberts studio seem to transform to terrorize Vita. Every dream sequence is filmed in a haunting manor with fantastic lighting to set the tone.

If your into art house style films, or just straight up weird this is a good one to pick up.

Overall 2.5 out of 3 Stars
