So I just watched a zombie movie, that never uses the word zombie, and isn't really a.zbke movie. Confused? Well so was.i when I first started watching The Cured.
An Irish horror, suspense, drama, The Current stars Sam Keeley, and Ellen Page. The movie takes place after a virus outbreak. People who contract the virus are turned into flesh eating zombies, although that term is never used. The difference with this virus is that it's curable. If you become a zombie you get treated and 70% of the people treated are cured.
There is one slight issue though. Even though you are cured you remember every detail about what you did as a zombie. Out main character, Sean for example remembers killing and eating his brother. He lives with his brothers widow and kids now which doesn't really help his psyche. Another thing to deal with is the fact that people really don't forgive and forget people who are cured. Basically they are treated like lepers. Lawyers who became zombkes are now garbage men. Rejected by familiys and friends they have nothing or nowhere to go. That is untill Sean starts an underground movement for cured people. Oh and let's not forget about the 25% of the people who the vaccine does not cure.
Bloody, well acted, definitely differently The Cured is a film that will be remembered and talked about by genre fans for years and years to come.
Combining the elements of suspence and drama with a backdrop of zombie gore this is definitely a must watch.
Scream Factory has released this on one of their typical amazing Blu-ray transfers. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.
