The Invitation Blu-ray Review

10/15/2019

I’ve mentioned before how sometimes a move will just sneak up on me. Mind you it’s a film that I have heard of, and is somewhat on my radar for one reason or another but do to time restraints I just simply miss it and forget about it. So when I finally get a chance to sit down and view one of these films it’s always a pleasant treat for me. I had the pleasure of watching the psychological horror film The Invitation the other night and was blown away. I can’t believe it passed me by. Its one of the best tension driven films I have seen in a long time, and a must for any horror fan.

The Invitation focuses on Will and his girlfriend Kira. They are planning on attending a party being thrown by Will’s ex wife and her new husband. Will and his ex, Eden, divorced after there young son passed away. Turns out Eden met her new husband David during a grief group she went to after their sons death and the two married and have not been seen for almost two years. When Will and Kira get there they are introduced to Eden’s friends, one of whom is a young lady named Sadie who is living with her and David.

Will meets David and the other guests but becomes very suspicious of their true intentions. He begins wandering about the house noticing odd things that bother him. Turns out he has a right to be suspicious as David and Eden belong to a cult known as the “Invitation” and their grand plan is life through death. They plan on poisoning everyone including themselves to live pain free in the afterlife.

This is a solid film from top to bottom. Great directing by Karyn Kusama, who directed the now cult favorite Jennifer’s Body. With a great cast lead by Logan Marshall-Green as Will the film moves along at a rapid pace. It clocks in a little over 90min but it feels like 20. The pacing is done so well that is seems to fly by. The cast has great chemistry together and make every scene in the film as tense and creepy as can be.

Now there are no real twist or surprise’s here just a standard psychological horror film, but the Invitation is so well crafter it’s a must for fans of suspense and horror alike. Second Sight Films has just put out an amazing Blu-ray edition with special features that’s a must own for fans. Do yourself a favor and order one today.

Overall 3.5 out of 5 Stars!
