The Lift Blu-ray Review

11/2/2017

Picture
Even seen a movie about an elevator that murders people. I have, and you can to as The Lift has finally gotten an American release. Yes back in 1983 a Dutch Horror Science Fiction hybrid directed by Dick Mass was released and centered around a killer elevator.

The Lift centers around a small building in Amsterdam where a malfunctioning elevator has killed multiple people. So the building manager does what anyone would do, call an elevator repairman.

That repairman is Felix Adellar who after close examination can find nothing wrong with the elevator. He becomes obsessed trying to figure out what's wrong with it. He spends so much time obsessing his wife thinks he's having an affair and leaves him. That still will not detour Felix and he does in fact soon discover the elevator is made from organic metal and has developed a mind of its own so to speak.

I enjoyed this film quiet a bit. It was unintentionally funny in parts but that added to the charm. The practical effects we're good and as it's 80's horror it has a nice little twist at the end. Is it a film for everyone? No, but it's definitely one to check out.

Blue Underground has aquired the rights and have put out a simply Georgeous Blu-ray. All the colors are completely crisp and the sounds of the killer elevator bellow from speakers. It's such a nice transfer you will begin to think your actually inside the elevator. Also as it's Blu Underground it's loaded with special features
  • Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Dick Maas and Editor Hans van Dongen
  • Going Up - Interview with Star Huub Stapel
  • "Long Distance" - Short Film by Dick Maas (2003, 4 Mins.)
  • Dutch Trailer
  • U.S. Trailer
  • Poster & Still Gallery
  • BONUS Collectable Booklet with new essay by writer and filmmaker Chris Alexander

Bottom line, another great release from Blu Underground and another must add to your collection

Overall 3 out of 5 Stars
