The Looming Tower Blu-ray Review

9/10/2018

The following Blu-ray was provided to me by Warner Brothers for review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

When I give a review the in thing I always, always try to do is keep it spoiler free. Well this review is going to cover the miniseries The Looming Tower, which tells the story of the events leading to, and ending with the Tower Collapse on 9/11. So I guess it's safe to say this is a story you sadly know the answer to.

Based on the novel by Lawrence Wright the Looming Tower was a ten part miniseries that aired on Hulu. It follows our investigation of Al-Qaeda from the early 90s and culminates with the events of 9/11.

Jeff Daniels stars as John O'Neil he is the head of I-49, a counter terrorist group that is looking into two embassy bombings when the series begins. O'Neil has his suspicions that Al-Qaeda is behind them but he doesn't get much backing from the CIA as they are focused on retaliation.

O'Neil discovers a protege Ali Soufan, a Muslim who has just joined his group. He's the perfect man to go undercover in cells and try to flush the enemy out.

We follow the entire rise and eventual fall of O'Neil and I-49. We watch as the organization battles internal conflict with our own government eventually leading to O'Neil's dismissal. That tragic turn if events leads his to taking a head of security job at The World Trade Center.

Powerfully and well acted the series blends facts, with conspiracy theories. It's a great watch even though you know the outcome. I didn't get to see it on Hulu but now Warner Brothers has released the series on Blu-ray and I have to say it was very easy to binge watch. I watched it in just 2 days as it was hard to stop.

Like I said knowing the ending wont matter in a show of this caliber. It's a great watch and something you should definitely pick up.

Overall 3 out of 5 Stars
