The Meg Blu-ray Review

11/10/2018

The following Blu-ray was provided to me by Warner Brothers for review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

In all honesty this could be the world's shortest review. I could simply type "Jason Statham vs Giant Shark" and you would know that this was a masterpiece that you needed to watch. In all honesty that does sum up The Meg really well. It also is a fantastic film you should watch, butt I'll  sum it up a little better for you.

The Meg, based off if the novel of the same name stars Jason Statham as Jonas Taylor who in the beginning of the film is leading a rescue on a submarine that is sinking. He manages to save a few but has to leave two crew men behind as he cannot risk everyone dying. As he and the group escape the ship blows up. Taylor claims he saw a giant sea monster destroy the sub but his claim is laughed off by his partners.

We flash forward five years and are introduced to Mana One, a giant underwater research facility. The group there is searching for a deeper part of the ocean that man has never gone to. They believe it's hidden under layers of sulfide. When a sub they launch to explore becomes trapped they seek out Taylor to save the people aboard it. When he gets to the sub they are attacked by a giant Megalodon Shark long believed extinct. They are able to escape but the giant shark follows them and begins headed towards a popular Beach resort. Taylor and what's left of the crew gear up and try to kill it.

This movie is awsome. The special effects are amazing. This shark looks real. I can't praise the special effects enough. The action scenes are filled and edited to make everything over exaggerated and completely over the top. And I say that in a good way. It's not played off as corny or for laughs though. In fact it's a very tight paced film.

It's been compared to Jaws because if the shark factor but that's almost unfair. They are two very different movies. The Meg is a straight forward action film. Not a slow build thriller. I don't want to spoil anything, but at one point Jason Statham has to get out of his sub to attack the shark on his own. That right there is yet another major sell point.

Action packed, funny, great cast, great chemistry and amazing effects make this a great popcorn film. I saw it on the big screen and loved every second of it. My entire family did to be honest. Now Warner Brothers has released it on Blu-ray. It looks and sounds great. The video quality brings everything to life in your home.

Once again I just can't stress how good this film is. Like I said in the beginning it's Jason Statham vs a Giant shark. Go pick this one up now!

Overall 4 out of 5 Stars
