Urban Legend Blu-ray Box Set Review

10/28/2017

Picture
"An urban legend, urban myth, urban tale, or contemporary legend is a form of modern folklore. It usually consists of fictional stories, often presented as true, with macabre or humorous elements, rooted in local popular culture. These legends can be used for entertainment purposes, as well as semi-serious explanations for random events such as disappearances and strange objects."

In the late 90's horror films had a resurgence especially with the teenage crowd. Because of this studios began casting "hot young actors" in these said films. Truth be told a lot of them were pretty good films that actually got major releases. One of the more popular ones was 1998's Urban Legends starring Jared Letting Rebecca Gayheart, Tara Reid, and Joshua Jackson

The film centers around a group of college students who suddenly have to deal with a killer when one of there freinds is murdered. The hook to this one is the murders are all based off urban legends. Driving with the lights out then killing the first person to flash you. A maniac in the back seat hiding to kill you. Death by coke and pop rocks.

The film plays out well and to this day will still hold your interest. It's one of the better slasher films of that decade, with a great ending sequence. Made for under 10 million it ended up grossing well over 71 million at the box office which gave it a follow up film

Urban Legends 2: The Final Cut centers on another group of college kids making a horror film. Unfortunately for them they are plagued by a serial killer who is murdering people using urban legends.

We get the stolen kidney in a bathtub of ice. Screaming at midnight while someone is being murdered. A burrito full of roach eggs, and a few random stabbings for good measure.

A fantastic twist ending helps, but not enough to live up to the original. But the film more than doubled it's budget and a third film was made.

Urban Legends 3: Bloody Mary was released straight to video. This time the film forgoes the serial killer aspect and becomes a supernatural thriller. Three girls summon Bloody Mary at a party one night to extract revenge on a group of school football players. Bloody, and we'll acted for a straight to video film this one is sadley overlooked by many.

Well now fans can see the entire series on Blu-ray for the first time courtesy of Via Vision Entertainment. A Georgeous 3 disc set that also includes a Making Of Bloody Mary feature is a must own for horror fans

The audio and video is absolutely amazing. The films look and pop better on this Blu-ray set than they did in the theatre. It's definitely a must buy set, that I cannot recommend enough.

So if you want to see an original, make that 3 original films instead of another reboot or remake I recommend picking this set up. You can order it here

Overall 4 out of 5 Stars!
