Wonder Woman Blu-ray Review

9/15/2017

The following Blu-ray was provided to me by Warner Brothers for review. Opinions are my own.

Oh DC Live Action Movie Universe, I really want you to succeed. Your characters are much better than Marvel's. Your comics are better, your tv shows and animated films are light years ahead of anything, yet you struggle on the film front.

Green Lantern was awful in every sense of the word. Man of Steel was too dark and brooding for Superman, Batman v Superman was to dark and brooding even for Batman, plus it was just a mess. And Suicide Squad was a dark film, but that one I enjoyed mostly due to the character's interaction and the spots of humor. Now we have Wonder Woman, who was breifly introduced in Batman v Superman.

Wonder Woman is the story of Princess Diana, daughter of Zeus and Queen Hippolyta who was raised on the island of Themyscira home to a race of Amazon's. They live away from the outside world and protect "The Godkiller" a powerful weapon that can be used to kill Ares God of War. Trained harder than any other Amazon by her aunt Antiope, Diana becomes one of the most powerful warriors on the island.

One day a WW1 service man named Steve Trevor crash lands on the island. He's is rescued by Diana, who is not sure what to make of him as she has never seen a man before. He is pursed by a German Sub which lands on the island as well. The Amazon army defeats the Germans but Antiope is killed in the process. Steve explains that the outside world is caught in a terrible war, and he has stolen plans for a deadly new mustard gas the Germans plan on using against the allied forces. Diana, believing Ares to be the cause of the war leaves with Steve to help him stop the war and destroy Ares.

Part romance, part serial, part action, part fish out of water, and all comic book, Wonder Woman is just what DC needed. Humor, characters you care about, a good story, beautiful set pieces, and Georgeous costumes with strict attention to detail for the times. Wonder Woman is a hit for the whole family to enjoy, and probably one of the best films of the year.

Gal Gadot, from Fast and the Furious fame does a tremendous job of portraying Wonder Woman, as does Chris Pine in his performance as Steve. The chemistry between them holds everything else in place. Throw in a fantastic score and you have a fantastic film ahead of you.

Warner Brothers has just released this in 4k and Blu-ray and the quality and sound are second to none. The island scenes are spellbinding to say the least.plus it's loaded with special features
