Zombie 4 After Death Blu-ray Review

5/24/2018

Picture
Zombie 4 aka After Death is another entry in the popular Zombie series from Italy. This feature is directed by Claudio Fragasso, and like the other before it is not connected so don't worry if you miss one.
Zombie 4 deals alot with voodoo. See in the beginning we meet a young girl named Jenny who is with her parents on a small island. They are there as part of a medical research team

Unfortunately for them the people there practice voodoo. When a priest in the village is murdered the natives use their voodoo magic to raise the dead to take revenge on the outsiders. Jenny's family is killed by zombies but she escapes thanks to a magical necklace she has.

We flash forward a few years and Jenny, now all grown up heads out with a group of mercenarys to try and figure out what caused the dead to rise up. While they are searching for answers we meet a group of three guys who are on the island just for fun. They end up in an old cave and trigger the voodoo curse from years ago that causes the dead to rise up and kill people in the island.

This film has a great story, it's wonderfully directed, and features fantastic gore and mutilation killings that will satisfy any gore hound. This is actually considered the last if the old school gore drenched Italian zombie films.
The acting is well done as well.

My only issue is the ending. No I won't give it away and spoil anything, I'll just say it's very abrupt. In fact, to me it feels like there should be another act or at least a few additional scenes. It's like the film just suddenly stops. Regardless of that it's still a fun film to watch.

Severin Films has done another amazing transfer on this film making it look and sound amazing. The gore scenes spring to life with this new transfer, and as it's Severin they have included an ample amount of special features

  • Run Zombie Run! – Interview With Director Claudio Fragasso and Screenwriter Rossella Drudi
  • Jeff Stryker in Manila – Interview With Actor Chuck Peyton
  • Blonde vs Zombies – Interview With Actress Candice Daly
  • Behind-The-Scenes Footage
  • Trailer
  • Bonus Disc: CD Soundtrack

Great film that's fun for horror fans, and worth watching if your new to the Italian horror scene.

Overall 3 out of 5 Stars!
