Batman is the secret identity of Bruce Wayne. Witnessing the murder of his parents as a child leads him to train himself to physical and intellectual perfection and don a bat-themed costume in order to fight crime. Batman operates in Gotham City, assisted by various supporting characters including his sidekick Robin and his butler Alfred Pennyworth, and fights an assortment of villains influenced by the characters' roots in film and pulp magazines. Unlike most superheroes, he does not possess any superpowers; he makes use (to the best that he can) of intellect, detective skills, science and technology, wealth, physical prowess, and intimidation in his war on crime.
Although variations have changed over the years Batman is the one character who's origin has actually kept the same central basis. Played by Ben Affleck in the new DC films, Batman was the center point for the Justice League film. And now he's the focal point for this Diamond Select Toys PVC Diorama Review.
First off let's start at the body this time. I love how finally after all these years Batman is wearing grey just like he always has in the comics. That stupid black movie costume is gone. Diamond Select has captured this perfectly. The battle worn grey suit with the bat emblem comes springing full force. Notice how the outfit is battle damaged. I really like how Diamond Select Toys designs these to depict the hero in battle. From the etched battle cuts in the costume, to the variations of shading used to accent dirt and scuff marks this is a perfect way to show off the caped crusader. Throw in the Batsignal on the chest (I still prefer the classic blue) and it's a beautiful design. And let's not forget to notice the comic book version of the utility belt.
Moving up to the face you can see Ben Affleck under that cowel. From the jaw line to the lips this statue is a dead ringer. Throw in the fact he made a great Batman that makes it stand out more. I love the cowel design as well. Notice how it's sculpted to show all the wrinkles and folds from cowel to cape. It even has a slight lift in the shoulder area to show how the cape is blowing as Batman leaps into action. The eye's of the cowel are the most important however as they form that trademark scowl look the Batman in known for. You can feel how angry and determined he looks by the bending of the brow in this design.
The arms and legs on this side view sow the 3D detail that went into this piece. Clutching his trademark batarang you can almost feel how Batman is drawing back ready to throw it. All the fingers are individually sculpted to show the firm grip he has on his trusty weapon and you can even see the wrinkles in the gloves as he arches his wrist slightly back. As we work are way to the leg notice the cape. I love how it not only flows with the design if the statue but the extra touch of all the tatters and rips along the bottom make this look even better. The bent shooting out leg is the topper for the 3D look. If you look you can even see how the boot has dust and dirt etched and painted on it to give it the full battle look.
Before I get to the base l wanted to point of the back of the cape. As you can see it's perfectly done to look like it's blowing as Batman jumps into action. Every line is perfectly sculpted. You can see the lift where the shoulders are pushed up and the one part I really like is how there is a part of the cape brushed against the wall where Batman is leaping into action. It's a nice touch that needs to be mentioned
The base is pretty detailed on this piece as well it's a platform in Gothams Harbor where Batman and the rest of the Justice League battled Steppenwolf and his Parademons. I like how the base has flame bursts all over it. It really makes it stand out. The fact the rails that Batman is jumping over are worn out helps.guve it that full gritty look. The way the base is set, with Batman flipping into action really makes this an eye catcher. All the flames are shaded, painted, and sculpted to look as real as possible.
Affleck is the second best Batman out there (sorry but Adam West is still the man) and this is yet another impressive piece to add to your collection. Even if you didn't like Justice League and are a Batman fan, this statue deserves a place in your collection. Go pick one up
