We've already covered that I enjoyed the Justice League movie, and everyone knows the origin of Superman so why don't we just get to the review of Diamond Select Toys PVC Diorama of Superman based off of the Justice League movie.
As you can probably tell right away the costume is painted brighter than the costume from the new movies. That to me is a plus as Superman should never have been a brooding hero. He needs to be presented as bright and colorfull. He's a symbol of hope or God's sake. One of the things I really like is how the cape is the mounting point to tell base so it looks as though Superman is getting g ready to set down from flying to battle a bad guy.
This side shot give you a great example of not only the sculpting but the cape as well. You can see all of the muscles underneith the costume. Not only does that give it a realistic look but it captures the flavor of the comic books, as all the heros have always been drawn that way. Notice the size of the cape. It flows down, and out, with twists and turns sculpted throughout to give it the appearance of it blowing in the wind.
Speaking of the cape look at how beautiful it is. It's simply amazing the detail that went into it. From the molding to the shades incorporated throughout to give it that flying 3D effect it's truly georgeous. I love how it even has the big indent towards the bottom like it's wind blowing back from closing in on the ground. The cape is definitely my favorite part of the design. It makes me hope we get a Spawn statue one day.
The base is a rock/mountain type setting. You can see how Superman is hovering just above it with his legs slightly bent. Also notice his boots. There is actual markings of dirt and some general wear and tear from fighting bad guys. That's another example of going above and beyond when creating a statue like this. The bae itself is a bit of a let down for me as The Flash statue had Barry sanding on a defeated enemy. I was hoping we could have had something similar of this one
I saved the front shot for last. The "S" is in full effect on the chest it's sculpted out a bit to give it the look it's popping off the costume. The painting around it has a lot of slight shading which accents the big red S. I love that as the logo on Supermans chest needs to really pop out. I think it was done perfectly. The torso is great showing off all the muscles and the mesh like design of the suite. It's painted like the boots to give it a real and worn look. I can't get over how the color adds to it. I can't stress enough how much I enjoy the bright colors that were used.
Finally we have the face. The head looks fine as does the hair, but there is something in the face I don't really get. It has pouting lips with just an odd look around it. I dont know if it was kind of a joke as Cavils mustache was CGI removed for scenes in the film and this was a wiped look they gave it but it just looks odd to me. It looks like Henry Cavil to a point but not in a realistic way, more like a cartoon version. The eyes are fine and everything is sculpted fine I just can't get past the weird lips. But to be honest they did look weird in the film as well.
Another great one to add to your collection. Mine is right next to my Flash and Wonder Woman. It's a great piece to display and fellow fans of the film will no doubt enjoy it. Go ahead and pick this one up.
Overall 4 out of 5 Stars.
