Eugene "Flash" Thompson is a high school jock and former bully at Midtown High School, and a fan of Spider-Man. After losing his legs in the war he signed up for a government project to bond with an alien symbiote (Like Venom) so his legs can regenerate allowing him to return to being a soldier. He unfortunately is unable to fully bond with the symbiote like Eddie Brock did and must control his via drugs. He can only remain in control for 48 hrs. During this time he uses the symbiote power to work on special military assignments, as well as helping the Secret Avengers.
Agent Venom is a very cool character. I like to think of him as the Punisher, working for the government but with the venom outfit. Because that’s essentially what he is, only instead of Frank Castle is Flash Thompson. At first I thought Flash was an odd choice to be Agent Venom but the character actually works. I have always been a huge fan of Venom (The Eddie Brock version) as well as Carnage so Flash with a symbiote as Agent Venom fit right in for me. I really enjoy his role in the Marvel Comic Universe and I was beyond thrilled to find out Diamond Select Toys has made an Agent Venom statue. And let me say it looks fantastic.
So as you can see Agent Venom is a combination Venom / Super Soldier. It’s a great design. You can see the outfit is, much like Venom, all black and white. Looking a the head you can see it’s a simple black head with the spider like eyes on the mask outlined in white. It looks more like when Spider-Man wore it as opposed to the Eddie Brock Venom. From there the outfit turns into more of a super soldier style. Notice the lift in the outfit right under the head. That’s where the Symbiote becomes almost armor like in design. You can see how the piece itself is designed to have the elevated look like in the comics. You can see the outfit is the similar black and white style as Venom. All black with a big white spider that encompasses the front out the outfit. You can see the muscles sculpted underneath the outfit to give it that full comic book look. Also as this is a comic book version you will notice its painted smooth, just like the drawings. Not much in terms of shading or any real world style effects. Just sleek like the comic itself. Notice the shoulder and forearm armor. It’s a nice design as its very ridged. Lots of little dents, and markings sculpted throughout. Slightly lighter black, almost a dark grey with the same bright white outline around the areas to separate it. Its even got lots of white markings going through it as well. You can plainly see the giant gun Agent Venom is holding, because yes, he uses firearms as well as his symbiote powers.
Here’s a great shot of his gun as well as the bottom of his outfit. You can see the gun is fully detailed. From the scope, to the trigger its all sculpted out. Notice the hand grasping the trigger. The fingers are all individually sculpted which is a trademark of Diamond Select Toys. You can even see the white marking on the had itself similar to where the symbiote would shoot webbing. The legs are designed muscular and like the rest of the outfit a smooth black all the way around. You can see all the dark grey “ faded black straps on the legs for weapons. It’s the same color used for the shoulder and forearm armor which is a nice touch. I really enjoy how even though Agent Venom has all the powers of a symbiote he still straps up with weapons. The buckles on the weapon holders are very detailed right down to the buckle. Everything matches his comic book counterpart to a “T” The sculpting of the muscles underneath the outfit really give this a nice touch as well as it shows how big this guy really is.
This side shout gives you a great look at the armor. See its military grade armor but the symbiote has bonded with it as well giving it not only way more power, but a unique look as well. You can see here all the bubbles, lines, indents, everything. It actually has a look and feel of the symbiote flowing over the armor itself. It’s a great look and when you notice how its just a tad bit lighter than the rest of the outfit it really stands out. If you look close, and it really shows under the light I’m using for this, you can see the hints of white that have been painted into the armor as well. I also really like the fact that the shoulder pads have that bright white outline. The gun as you can see is not only detailed, like in the previous picture but massive as well. This is an eye catching piece to say the least. You can see one of his weapon straps on his leg, and you can also notice the heroic pose as Agent Venom is standing ready to battle.
The back is massive to say the least. I said Agent Venom was a big guy and you can really tell from this view how big he is. You can see the giant white spider takes up almost the entire back, which is sculpted to look almost overly muscular giving it that “V” shape/ The shoulder pads are raised up and you can see the white outlined ends of the armor sculpted in. From this view you also get a great look at all of Agent Venoms straps and belt. Grey and fully detailed on all aspects. The belt itself has plenty of pouches as it is a utility belt of sorts. Grey with hints of black shading everything in this part looks real world. From the stitching in the pouches to the little buttons molded on each one. The straps on the legs as well as the holsters are the same color of grey as well. You can see the pistol in Venoms right leg in its holster. The pistol is also fully molded to look real. From the trigger to the clip release its all sculpted to perfection.
The base is basic rock style, in fact judging by the looks or it is a combination of rock and rubble from battle. A reddish brown on the right are filled with cracks, scratches and markings to look like real rock, or at the very least sone type on concrete. From there it is raised into almost rubble. You can see that same reddish concrete but its now raised almost staircase style into larger chunks that are more of a very light almost tan and faded brown. All designed to be fully cracked and damaged throughout. It’s a very detailed piece. It’s also just the right size and color as to not take anything away from Agent Venom himself. You also get a great look at his boots in this shot. The boots have also bonded with the symbiote to give it an armored like substance for extra protection. Like the other armored parts it looks as though its currently being bonded with. The bottom on the boots are just standard black. This is a very cool choice for a base as it accents the design of the symbiote style boots.
This is a great piece. Its Agent Venom, I should have to say no more. I have it standing by my Venom statue which is around a few of my Spider-Man pieces. This is a great addition for Spider-Man collectors, as well as just Marvel collectors as well. Diamond Select has done a fantastic job on this one. It’s a must have for any statue collection.
