Batman is the secret identity of Bruce Wayne. Witnessing the murder of his parents as a child leads him to train himself to physical and intellectual perfection and don a bat-themed costume in order to fight crime. Batman operates in Gotham City, assisted by various supporting characters including his sidekick Robin and his butler Alfred Pennyworth, and fights an assortment of villains influenced by the characters' roots in film and pulp magazines. Unlike most superheroes, he does not possess any superpowers; he makes use (to the best that he can) of intellect, detective skills, science and technology, wealth, physical prowess, and intimidation in his war on crime.
Batman is the greatest superhero ever. I make no qualms about saying that. I have been a huge Batman freak since I was a little kid. Comics, toys, games, cloths, I collect them all. My favorite look is and will always be the classic blue and grey with the yellow Batsignal logo on the chest. That chest logo has been tinkered with a bit over the years but for the majority nothing has changed. In the films the costume is always black, which I hate. Diamond Select Toys has been pumping out Batman pieces like razy and there newest one is amazing. Capturing the classic and the new, this is a must have piece.
Lets start at the top. You can see the white eye piece under that cowl. From the jaw line to the lips this statue is a dead ringer for Batman. Throw in the fact the eyes are squinted down with a nice amount of shading around them, and his lips have that trademark frown that makes it stand out more. I love the cowl design as well. Notice how it's sculpted to show all the wrinkles and folds from cowl to cape. It even has a slight lift in the shoulder area to show how the cape is blowing as Batman leaps into action. The eyes of the cowl are the most important however as they form that trademark scowl look the Batman in known for. You can feel how angry and determined he looks by the bending of the brow in this design. I love how it’s the classic blue color with ample amounts of shading throughout to give it depth. The cowl itself is done very sleek and you can see how it almost shines under this light. The Bat Symbol is right there across the chest. Its just a simple black bat. No yellow outline. This keeps it more like some of the games. I don’t mind it not having the yellow as they kept the original blue and black colors.
I love how finally after all these years Batman is wearing grey just like he always has in the comics. That stupid black movie costume is gone. Diamond Select has captured this perfectly. The costume and a black bat emblem, and blue cape and cowl comes springing full force. Notice how the outfit is just bright and smooth but still a darker grey to give it a more ominous looks and feel.. I really like how Diamond Select Toys designed this to be a bright colorful version of the worlds darkest hero. From the sculpted muscles under the outfit to the flowing cape this is a perfect way to show off the caped crusader. Throw in the big bright yellow bat utility belt and it's a beautiful design. The classic pose is a great touch as well as are all the overly exaggerated muscles underneath the costume. You can see the ab muscles sticking out in full force, as well as the quad muscles in the legs. I love how they left the blue cod piece under the belt as well. And before I forget look at the detail on the belt. You can see all of the buttons and stitching lines in each pouch
The arms and legs on this side view show the 3D detail that went into this piece. Clutching his fists you can almost feel how Batman is drawing back ready to throw it. All the fingers are individually sculpted to show the firm grasp he has clutching his cape, and you can even see the wrinkles in the costume as he arches his wrist slightly back. As we work our way to the leg notice the cape. I love how it not only flows with the design of the statue but the extra touch of all the tatters and wrinkles along the bottom make this look even better. The bent shooting out leg is the topper for the 3D look. If you look you can even see how the boot has a few wrinkles etched and painted on it to give it the full battle look. I cant stress again how amazing the twisting and blowing of the cape are sculpted. Everything comes together, but its flowing every way imaginable. Twisting and turning with every line, and wrinkle sculpted in. This is without a doubt the best looking cape I have seen on a Batman piece to date.
I want to point out from the back how good this cape looks. Hanging down yet still almost blowing in the wind as Batman prepares to leap into action. Once again notice all the small etchings and lines throughout all the bends and folds. You can even see the back blow from where Batman is holding the cape in is fists. The cape is definitely a huge part of the Batman costume, and this is just spot on. Look at the shoulders where the cape is lifting up with the body. That’s an attention to detail you don’t see very often. As it is blowing to the right side you also get a look at the detail that went into capturing the outfit as well. Every wrinkle is sculpted in throughout the costume. But at the end of the day the cape is the sell point. Look how it shines in the light. I cant praise the detail in it enough
The base is what appears to be a pile of wreckage that Batman is standing on. You can see a few cinder blo9cks, coils, pipes, and other various pieces of steel crumpled up and buried within the pile. Perhaps he is in Gotham’s junk yard, or simply and industrial destroyed area of town. I love hoe it elevates on the left where his foot is placed to give it the look as if he is standing over something. Diamond Select is great about making smaller detailed bases that take nothing away from the piece itself and this one is no exception.
Batman is my favorite hero of all time, and I never cared for the movie looks. I love the comic book look through and through and this new statue from Diamond Select captures it perfectly. Its already sitting above my fireplace with my other Batman statues. I can’t recommend this one enough, go and pick one up today.
