Diana Prince, a true Amazonian with special powers, fights bad guys in a skintight outfit. In classic `wham, bam' comic-book style, Wonder Woman catches people in her magic lasso of truth and uses her golden belt and bracelets to deflect things such as bullets.
I dig Wonder Woman. More so the comics than the new films. I did love the old TV Show though, but the comic books were where it was at. I also always loved the classic comic book look that Wonder Woman had. Nothing again the more modern armor style look in the new films, but the simple comic red, white and blue, with stars will always be the look I prefer. Ironically it’s the same outfit from the old TV show of Wonder Woman show which is still my favorite of all the live action incarnations Diamond Select Toys has just added another Wonder Woman to their DC Comic Book Gallery based on the look of the old show, and let me tell you, she’s a beauty.
I’m going to start with the face. It's perfect I can't say anything else. It looks like the drawing of the show has come to life. From the lips to the eyes to even the eye lashes this is amazing on every level. Lips, nose, cheekbones you name it. It's perfectly sculpted and painted to look like a comic book drawing. I love the bold bright colors they used. Bright red lipstick that matches the bright red star on her tiara and those bold steel blue eyes really stand out. The flesh color is a much more tan style than most and the bright black hair and eyebrows really bring everything together. I especially like how bright the tiara is. A stunning gold that matches the gold in her costume. You can even see her silver bracelet that she uses to deflect bullets right out front as well. Comic book style but still anatomically correct as well, notice the muscle sculpting in the arms, as well and the neck and throat area. I also really enjoy the placement of her crossed arms showing off the bracelets she uses to deflect bullets and other various weapons and shots being launched at her. The star in the center gives it that perfect comic touch
Moving down the front I want to point out her big eagle in the center of the outfit. It’s a design that has come back in recent years which I for one am a fan of. It’s the same color gold used for the tiara, belt sash and lasso which really makes it a perfect match. You can see the lasso strapped to her side that shines when the light hits it just right. The golden molding look great as does the gold tends hanging from the bottom. If you look really close, you can see all the lines, stiches and wrinkles etched and carved into the outfit itself It’s a great touch. Speaking of great touch Look at all those bright white stars on Wonder Woman’s bright blue shorts They are so bold they almost stick out. It really gives it a 3D look and feel.
Cutting to the side you can see the Lasso of Truth at a better angle in Wonder Woman’s sash It’s very thin making it look and feel like a real amazon lasso would. It’s a very, very bright yellow that combined with the red top and blue and white star shorts also looks fantastic. It’s very long so you can see the circular lasso shape It also adds another 3D look and feel to the piece as it truly looks like she is throwing that right at you. You can see the sculpting in the arm as the elbow joints match a human body perfectly, and her other silver bracelet is sticking out in full effect. This is a comic book style piece so its sleek and smooth like the drawings, but the beautiful job of shading really helps to show off the shape and muscle sculpture throughout.
From the back you get yet another shot of the hair style. It's etched out so meticulously you would swear it was done strand by strand. It flows and curves perfectly around the face neck and as you see here in the back where the majority is set. The shading is breathtaking as it blends a pure black with just enough shades of lighter black to make it shine in the light. It is identical to the drawings I remember from the books. It's by far one of, if not the best hair I've seen on any statue. Moving down you see the tan skin and red, gold, and blue costume. This is a good look at the blue shorts. The stars are a very bright white and really look great. You also get a shot of the long legs as they are in there battle pose. The red and white boots are comic accurate as well.
The base is great, there is no other way to say it. A bright black circle that sines in the light, but that’s not the sell point. No the fact that they used the old school television logo lettering of the red white a blue to mount “Wonder Woman” on the base is a fantastic touch. Adding in stars that are springing from the words add to the charm of this piece. I can’t stress enough how fun this base is. The red boots look amazing on the grey base. It’s a small, simple, yet effect way to cap off another amazing DC Comic style statue.
This is yet another amazing piece from Diamond Select Toys. I really love these comic book gallery statues they make based on the DC heroes. This is a great one. I have it next to my Flash statue from the same line as the two are both so bright they complement one another. Fans of Wonder Woman and collectors of comic statues need to pick this one up to add to their collection right away.
Overall 5 out of 5 Stars!
