Dceased is one of the best books I have read in years. It was a fun exciting take on the entire zombie craze that’s still going strong. Throw in the fact that I am a huge Harley Quinn fan, I was beyond excited to hear that Diamond Select Toys was making a statue out of her appearance in DCeased. Granted her appearance was short in terms of the overall arc of the story, but hey, its Harley and it was a must display statue for me.
Starting with the face you can see this is a perfect match for her comic book counterpart. No white makeup here simply a flesh colored face but filled with deep sculpted cuts, or scars almost. All the cuts are etched into the face and colored a pale red. Other than that it’s the same modern style Harley. From her cheekbones, red lips puckered lips as she blows a kiss it’s all here. It’s a dead ringer. Her eyes are blue and black with markings of red on the side. Her smeared makeup below and partially around them while the head is slightly tipped at an angle. From the chin to the eyebrows it’s a dead ringer. The hair has the part and comes down the sides of the face in the trademark pigtails, with a slight curl in the front. The left pigtail has the pink coloring at the bottom, while the right has the baby blue that morphs into a dark blue and it comes down to Harleys shoulder. Her jacket appears to be torn as she only has a full sleeve on the left. The right is exposed on top and you can see a few more of her scars. Her hand is outstretched as she blows a kiss. The arching of the pose gives it the impression that its really sticking out at you. Creepy yet beautiful at the same time. Her body is accurate with the red and black leather jacket top with matching red and black corset covering her chest. It’s a very dull paint job that still manages to glisten in the light. The jacket has all the stitching lines in it as if it were real, complete with buckles, and all the padding and wrinkles you find going down the left arm. I like how the top and elements of the sleeves are red, while the main part of the jacket is black.
Moving down you get a good look at Harley legs and right arm. She’s hunched over so her midriff is mostly covered. It’s all designed however, with the red and black corset top and her flesh colored midsection exposed. The red and black combined with the flesh color makes for a fantastic contract. Its painted and designed to give it a true comic book look. Moving down you can see her exposed mid-section complete with black belt with a silver buckle. The belt itself is a deep shade of black and it goes perfectly with the black and red pants The left red side has Harleys knee pad in a black with red color, while the right pad is red with black in the center.. All of the colors from the jacket, corset, and pants are the same so it looks like a perfect match. I like the addition of sculpting a few wrinkles by the knees where she is bent over. The paint looks amazing as this really does look and shine like a leather outfit, and the wrinkles placed throughout really add a nice touch. You can see the bunching up on her right arm where the forearm part of her jacket is slightly pushed up. Having her finger nails painted red was a classy touch as well.
The back and side has surprisingly a lot going on for such a little costume. You can see pants are tucked into her big boots. Look at all the detail that went into this. Small things. Like all the belt holes and studs in the back of the belt. Notice all the small little wrinkles sculpted in to make the pants look like they are real leather as opposed to using a smooth design. I love how even the gun is a combination of red and black. This is a well crafter piece. I almost forgot to point out all the bunching and wrinkles in the sleeves of the jacket. Using two colors is hard but the way everything on this alternates it flows like a statue that uses fifty different colors. I especially like the boots she has on in this piece. Not the big knee high boots, just a simple high top with the pants tucked in. I like how the left is black with red lacing and the right is red with black lacings. I like it because the pants are the opposed color of the shoes. Its great placement of two colors to keep everything separate.
The base is pretty cool. It’s like a piece of an alleyway complete with chain link fence. The fence is a great backing. Two metal poles, that are painted a combination of grey, black, orange, and red to give it a full rusted out look. You can see the caps on the tops as well as the holes with rust and old cement around the base legs where its mounted to the floor. The fence is also painted to look rusted out. I really like the addition of the fence. Especially with Harley bending down. It really adds to the overall doom and gloom of the piece. The floor of the base itself is simply cracked and dirty cement, also with rust markings throughout by the fence piece. A few bricks and cracks are thrown in to really bring it all together.
As I said Dceased was a great comic and basing a statue on it was amazing. I love Harley so this is a no brain piece to have. I really hope that Diamond Select does more pieces based on the Dceased book as it creates endless possibilities of versions of all the characters. Like I said I love the character and the book and if you do as well you will want to pick this one up right away.
Overall 5 out of 5 Stars!
