Harley Quinn Batman The Animated Series Bust Review

3/1/2021

Picture
Before her descent into madness, Dr. Harleen Quinzel was a promising psychiatrist assigned to Arkham Asylum, Gotham's home for the criminally insane. But after meeting the Joker, the young doctor became obsessed with the crazed criminal's warped mind. Sensing opportunity, the Joker manipulated her, driving his therapist so mad that he was able to control her. Harleen fell in love with the villain, broke him out of Arkham and devoted her life to making him happy and spreading his bloody brand of mayhem

Harley Quinn is my favorite female comic book villain of all time. She is my wife’s favorite comic character by far. In fact my wife has a large amount of Harley Quinn statues, cloths, purses, jackets, pants, shoes, you name it. Now I personally prefer the classic Jester look of Harley not the Suicide Squad version so when Diamond Select and Gentle Giant announced they were making a bust based on her classic look and appearance from Batman the Animated Series I knew this would be another must have for the collection.
Picture
Starting with the face you can see this is a perfect match for her animated series counterpart. The cheekbones, red lips, villainess smile it’s all here. It’s a dead ringer. She’s painted in her trademark white that is as bright as bright could be. It shines in the light. No real shading to speak of, just shadows from the molding and placement of the cheeks and such. No this is a ghastly yet beautiful white face at its cartoon best. The eyes have the bold black mask painted around them. You can see her eyelashes are sticking out a bit, which only helps to accentuate her big blue eyes. All done in cartoon style of course. From the chin to the eyebrows it’s a dead ringer. No fancy hair on this one. This is the old school jester outfit done in red and black. So Harley is wearing her trademark jester hat that is part of the overall outfit. Half black and half red with the points hanging down and towards the back with a white beanie ball at the bottom.
Picture
The top of the body is accurate with the red and black body suite going smooth all the way around. It’s a very shiny paint job that glistens in the light. The top has the white bib with the balls on all three points. It’s painted and designed to give it a true animated style look. Moving down you can the outfit just continues. Harley in the cartoons just wears one big body suit and this captures it perfectly. The cool thing is the top half is black on the left and red on the right, whereas her hat red on the left and black on the right. Same style just a variation of the colors. Mixing them up may not seem like a lot but it really does bring out more in the piece.
Picture
The base is a work of art. It’s a big top tent. Dull white, almost a cream color and red stripes on the top where Harley is resting that sculpt into the roof outline then connecting to the black and dark green base itself. Surrounding the base are tiny little Hyenas with dog collars. It’s a fantastic touch as Harley always has a pet hyena with her. It’s a great take on the old school horse on a merry go round. And as Harley is usually hiding out with the Joker at an abandoned amusement parks this was a great idea for a base. It really gives it that sinister clown element.

This is another amazing bust from the good folks at Gentle Giant and Diamond Select Toys. Plus its Harley Quinn, and trust me you can never have to much Harley Quinn memorabilia on display. Pick one up right away. Now these are limited only 1000 made so act fast.

Overall 5 out of 5 Stars
