The Joker is a serial killer and a super-villain, a dangerous madman who dresses like a clown and commits violent crimes. He is often recognized as Batman's greatest enemy, living in and terrorizing Gotham City, although he spends most of his time in Arkham Asylum. In addition to being a deadly and unpredictable physical combatant, he is a brilliant and ruthless criminal mastermind. His crimes require no motivation other than his sadistic desire to show people the meaninglessness of life through pain and death, and the narcissism to see the world remade in his own image. He is constantly adapting his personality and his psychosis to respond to the world around him, sometimes a harmless trickster and at others a brutal mass-murderer. Batman is his only worthy opponent, and although he has passed up multiple opportunities to murder the dark knight, he has no such problems with killing Robin or crippling Batgirl. Although his origins remain unclear and shrouded in mystery, it is also known that prior to the chemical accident that scarred his mind and body he was the small-time criminal Red Hood
Now even though the character stayed the same Joker was slightly tamer in Batman the Animated Series. Sort of. Voice by Mark Hammill The animated Joker was one of my favorite villains of all time. Don’t get me wrong I love the comic book version. I even liked the old school TV version. Not a fan of the film versions however. I mean I dug the Joker movie but that had nothing to do with the comic books. Anyway the drawing of the joker with the overly done smile, pointed hair, bright purple outfit was fantastic. Throw in the fact Hamill did such an amazing job voicing him its no wonder why it’s a lot of people favorite incarnation of the joker. Well As Diamond Select makes the most amazing Batman statues it was only a matter of time before the made a resin bust of the Joker in his Animated Series form. And this thing is beautiful
There he is, the Clown Prince of Crime. Just look at how amazing this is. It’s the cartoon come to life in resin form. Sleek and smooth. A bright almost ghastly white with faint shadings of black here and there to give it a bit of depth. The forehead is molded to not only stick out from the front but from the sides as well. Sleek jet black painted from lines above the eyes, cheeks, and around parts of the mouth give it a bit a depth. The eyes are a deep yellow. Not bright, but not faded, almost sick looking. Deep thick black outlines around thew for the eyebrows and a big black dot in each center for the eyeball. The eyes are misplaced, at least not matching which gives this the feeling its starring at you. The nose sticks straight out with a bit of not only a point but a hook at the end as well. The mouth is in that famous giant smile causing the cheeks to stick out and to the sides at the top. The bright red lips are overshadowed by the huge yellow teeth. Each tooth separated by think black outlining. All of it forms into a square point of the jaw. Not only does this match the cartoon, its borderline scary as well.
The outfit is bright and bold and matches the drawing perfectly. The bright deep purple jacket is smooth and bright. You can see the collar of the jacket is sculpted in to make it look exactly like the tuxedo jacket he wears. A little lite orange flower rests on the right lapel. No doubt it sprays something evil as opposed to water. The flower is crumpled and molded to look cartoon accurate. Very little in terms of actual shading for it. The shirt is the same light orange as the flower once again very faint in terms of shading. Just a few light strokes of faint black. The tie is a bright bold blue. A half tied bow tie that once again is sleek like the animated design. Notice how it all comes down to a point. A very nice touch to say the least.
This side shot shows you the hair, which looks amazing. Bold black that comes out into three points. A curled point in the front and two points that stick out on each side. Triangles of bright green on the sides and a few streaks in the front for that old school look. You can see the perfectly sculpted ear, and even where the outline of the jaw is crafted in. I like how the inside of the ear is not only sculpted but painted black to make it look almost real. This is a wide piece due to the way its shaped. You get a good look of that in this show.
The base is a work of art. It’s a big top tent. Dull white and red stripes on the top where the Joker is resting that sculpt into the roof outline then connecting to the black and dark green base itself. The center in a big open mouth clown head. Deep black eyebrows that slant over the bold yellow eyes. Eyes that match the design of the Jokers himself. The mouth is wide open, no doubt where people will enter. The bright red mouth has light yellow teeth and the pink almost salmon colored tongue make a great entrance carpet. As the Joker usually hides out an abandoned amusement parks this was a great idea for a base. It really gives it that sinister clown element.
This is a fantastic looking piece and really has not only the look but the feel of the animated series as well. It’s bright, scary, funny, and bold all rolled into one. If you’re a fan of Batman The Animated Series, or of the Joker in general this is a must have piece for your collection. I have his with my other Joker Statues and it looks great. Its very limited, only 1000 of these were made so get your order in fast.
