Kitana PVC Diorama From Diamond Select Toys Review

1/29/2021

Picture
One of the lead characters of the Mortal Kombat saga, Kitana is the princess of Outworld and the adopted daughter of the emperor, Shao Kahn. She has a “twin” sister Mileena and personal bodyguard and best friend Jade always at her side. Through the course of events in the series, she learns that she is actually the daughter of Queen Sindel and King Jerrod, the rulers of Edenia, a realm that was conquered and destroyed by Shao Khan. She discovers that Mileena is not actually her sister, but a clone created by the emperor’s sorcerer Shang Tsung intended to watch over and spy on her. Kitana rebels and sides with the Earthrealm warriors to fight against Shao Khan and ultimately free her realm from being a part of Outworld. In Mortal Kombat 11, she earns the name of Kitana Kahn after becoming the new ruler of Outworld.

I hate Kitana, nothing personal, I just hate her. I hate her because every time I play Mortal Kombat and I have to face her I get demolished. She’s one of the best rounded characters to use. I myself like using Lu Kang, but he is no match for Kitana. Diamond Select Toys has been killing it with their Mortal Kombat statues and busts. I have Sub-Zero and Scorpion in my arcade room, and now I have their newest member of the line, Kitana, complete with her killer fans. She looks spot on, and I cold not wait to set her up

Starting at the top lets look at her head. Perfect match to the game. You can see her black hair flowing behind her to the side. Its done sleek like the video game as opposed to a real world look, but you can still see etching throughout to give it a more wavey and blowing look. Her eyebrows are pointed up giving the impression she is getting ready to fight. The eyes look great. A very ominous black with just a hint of white in the pupil. There is a small amount of shading around the eyes to make this more imposing. Her half mask looks great. It’s a leather style mask and its designed to show all the little etchings and lines in it. Smooth like the game, but raised slightly to make it more three dimensional. I really like how you can see her nose and her mouth under the mask. It really adds to the piece. You can see her mouth in what appears to be slightly opened, or yelling under the mask. With the shading and sculpting around the area it really makes the piece come alive.

Moving down you get a great look at the outfit. Its leather style and is sculpted in an “Elephant skin” style. You can feel the ridges and etching throughout. Its painted and designed smooth, but the skin style really makes it stand out. It’s a deep blue with a black sash. The seams of the legs and around the arms and neck are done in black as well. I really like the addition of the black as it looks great on the boots and gloves. Everything comes together. It’s a two color outfit but everything about it stands out. There is black shading done throughout the piece but not overly done. Just enough to show off some of the curves and shape of the body. You can see how is shines under the light in this photo. The legs are painted in a flesh color with just a few touches of faint light shading. The shading is a faint red, almost darker skin tone as opposed to black which makes it look like real flesh. The black sash in the center looks very cool as it is also done in that sleek yet elephant skin style. This is the spitting image of the video game character to say the least.

This side shot gives you a great look at her fighting fan. Black and silver just like her video game counterpart. The placement really makes this look real. You can see the handle is a jet black, where as the fan is a metallic silver with tons of light black shading. This looks not only like her weapon straight from the game, but like a real fighting fan. The way the lights hits it this looks like a real piece of metal. The sleek design combined with the metallic painting give the impression that this is a razor sharp fan. I hate that fan because like I’ve said she cuts me to pieces in the game with it. You can see every finger is individually sculpted and the placement of the hand is fantastic. Stretched straight out with the hand turned back grasping the fan handles, this looks straight out of the game itself. I love the placement of this weapon. Its like that in her other hand as well. Having it stretched out and twisting really adds a nice touch to this piece. Like I said the outfit is two colors, blue and black, throw in the silver and black fan and you have a four color piece. I’m counting the flesh color of the arms and legs. That’s not much in terms of color but the way its done really stands out.

The base is simple. A standard piece of ruble that the Kitana is doing battle on. Completely demolished you can see hundreds of cracks, holes, and imperfections designed throughout. A deep grey with lots of black and faded grey shading this really looks like a filthy piece of rock. I love the addition of the long piece of wood, which resembles a fallen tree or something. The destruction style this possesses shows that Kitana is in a battle. This is just a fantastic bright colored piece in every sense of the word which is saying a lot as it’s such a small amount of colors. From the base to the outfit itself, nothing is ever outshined by another element. This flows perfectly.

If you a Mortal Kombat fan, or video game fan in general this is yet another must have piece from Diamond Select Toys. As I stated I have the statues and busts of Sub-Zero and Scorpion. Now I can only hope they continue to add more piece to this collection. Kitana might be a character I hate to fight against, but I love having her on display with my other statues. Pick this one up today.

Overall 5 out of 5 Stars!
