Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers -- Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner -- must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos -- the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.
Thanos, although not a favorite character of mine from the comics was pretty amazing in the films. Josh Brolin played him to perfection and he really did come across as a villain, more so a force to be reckoned with. The look was different in the films than the books but that was ok. The film look was actually very cool and I like how it was different. Diamond Select has made a number of Thanos pieces both based off the films and comics so when this one came out I knew it needed to be added to the collection. Massive like the other pieces, in fact this is close to 2 feet tall. Its also very wide, and very intimidating.
Let’s look right at this face It’s crafted perfectly. You can see all the lines and indents sculpted into it. The lines are etched and shaded in a combination of black and grey as such to give it a shadow look thus creating a touch of realism. I mean you can tell this is Josh Brolin under the CGI effect it’s so realistic. The nose and cheek bones are formed up and the eye brows are slightly slanted down to give him a menacing look yet his eyes are actually looking upwards at his infinity gauntlet that he is ready to snap.. His eyes are well painted in a bright white and almost feel like he’s looking at you. The lines throughout the face give it a look of pure evil His head is crafted to give his head a dome look. The shading sculpting and painting give this a true film look. His head is not covered with his helmet in this version, but the one thing you definitely notice are his massive teeth. Each tooth individually sculpted and painted. You can see the spaces in between them as well as his red gums. The detail in this second to none and it looks like the movie is coming alive in your house. Having him look at the Gauntlet before the finger snap is a perfect pose as well.
This front shot shows how movie accurate the body is. The dark blue uniform with the golden armor on the top of the neck and around the arms makes look great. It’s painted and shaded to give it a spandex almost metallic look. It’s done in that elephant style that I really like as it gives the piece more depth and really makes it shine under the light. You can see all the muscles under the costume and as I stated at over 20 inches tall it’s made larger than most of the Marvel statues it truly has a larger than life feel. The positioning is fantastic, with Thanos’s big golden gloves arched up give it a real sinister look with his left hand drawn back for balance. I love how the golden parts have the black shading. It really makes them look like dirty gold yet still shine. Add to this that the costume is only, for the most part two colors and it makes everything work. And I have to, like always, point out that each finger is individually sculped and done in such a menacing way it really makes this look evil. You can even see the veins bulging through his biceps and forearms. The pants are very well done, also elephant style might I add, but a very slight different shade of gold. Just enough to separate the armor from it. The boots however are the same color as the pants and match perfectly.
The side shot really gives you a good look at how well the Infinity Gauntlet is sculpted. Shiny, sleek and bright. You can see that glove has all the indents and markings just like it does in the films. Everything is sculpted and etched in to give it a 3D look and feel. The jewels are all represented and sculpted in to make them look like they are sticking out. This is a perfect match to the films in every sense of the word. You get a good view of how gigantic Thanos’s arms are as well. Veins and muscles popping all over. Notice the elbow area. It has the same line indents sculpted in just like the chin area. You can even see, if you look close how the glove is designed to show the “Snap” getting ready to happen. Now if you prefer your Thanos to have a simple fist, you do get an extra gauntlet that you can swap out. I personally prefer this look as the final snap in Infinity War was iconic.
The base is basic rock style, in fact judging by the looks or it is a combination of rock and rubble from battle. A reddish brown on the right are filled with cracks, scratches and markings to look like real rock, and it even has a few patches of grass throw in for good measure. From there it is raised into almost rubble. You can see that same reddish brown but it’s now raised almost staircase style into larger chunks where Thanos has his boots planted. All designed to be fully cracked and damaged throughout. It’s a very detailed piece. It’s also just the right size and color as to not take anything away from Thanos himself. You also get a great look at his boots in this shot. The boots are golden to give to give it that armored look and feel. Like the other armored parts it used the shades colors and shading to match perfectly. This is a very cool choice for a base as Thanos was on the grounds of Wakanda when he snapped his fingers.
As I have said before Thanos although not a favorite villain of mine in the books was one hell of a bad guy in the movies. Josh Brolin played him to perfection and he will go down in history as one of the greatest Big Bads in film history. This statue is limited with only 1000 made so you better “snap” to it and pick one up right away.
