The Green Goblin is a Halloween-themed supervillain whose weapons resemble bats, ghosts and jack-o'-lanterns. Comics journalist and historian Mike Conroy writes of the character: "Of all the costumed villains who've plagued Spider-Man over the years, the most flat-out unhinged and terrifying of them all is the Green Goblin. Originally the Goblin was Norman Osbourne who after exposure to the goblin formula goes mad and becomes the Green Goblin he also becomes one of Spider-Mans’ greatest foes. Killing Gwen Stacey before he himself is killed, and later revived the Goblin has been a thorn in Spiderman’s side for years
It no question that the Goblin is the greatest enemy of Spider-Man. He’s killed his girlfriend, found out his identity, hell to make matters worse it’s his best friends dad. He has appeared in numerous incarnations over the years. From comics, games, cartoons, even films. He’s definitely a staple of the Marvel Universe and one of my favorite villains. I always loved the Goblin look, and the fact he has pumpkin bombs only adds to the cool factor. Diamond Select Toys made an amazing Hobgoblin resin statue a little while back, and now They have a Green Goblin resin that I can sit right next to it.
Let’s start off looking at the front. This is one amazing looking statue. The mask is as spot on as you can get. The bright green mixed with the darker and duller greens combined with yellow eyes and a big purple hat is so eye catching. Every little scratch and dent in the mask only makes it more evil. The shading of dark greens and light blacks in all the indents bends make it looks like a horrible demon. The pale red mouth and white pointy teeth really stand out as well. I love how the eyes are such a bright yellow with a hint of white but a big deep black dot right in the center. It captures the look perfectly and really shows off that old school Halloween look the Goblin had in the beginning. The ears are great as well. Pointed straight up and completely molded and shaded they really look like ears a goblin would have. The one little thing they captured, which I really like is how even though the mask is separate from the body suite it completely flows together. No lines and or marking to show the separation like the Hobgoblin has. I like this because the Goblin always had that complete one piece look. You could never see any separation when Norman Osbourne would take off the mask. It’s a great old school look that Diamond Select captured perfectly.
Moving to the body you can see the bright green and pale purple costume in full effect . I love the stretching style its done in. The placement is done as not only is the Goblin flying but he’s also getting ready to throw a pumpkin bomb, but I’ll get to that later. The body is just like the face. Bright green with darker greens and pale blacks for shading. The costume has the lizard skin almost amour looking style flowing throughout. The brown tattered belt and shoulder strapping across the chest light purple torso part of the costume is beautiful. A light brown leather color full of scratched and nicks all individually sculpted. Even the silver belt buckle stands out which is hard to do with the vibrant and smooth purple leggings and sleeves that are done almost like an old swashbuckler. Each piece is bumped and bubbled and painted with various greens but to give it that look of armor as well. I also really like how you can still see all the muscles underneath the outfit, but how they are not overly done, as Norman was just an averaged sized mad. This is spot on old school Green Goblin to a “T”
The back shows off a few things. The first one being the gigantic purple hat. You can see every brown stich going down the side where the hem line is. And let me tell you this thing is long. Ifs blowing in the wind and just twists and wraps around in the air. Its very impressive and one of the first things I noticed. The green and purple shine and as far as the purple part of the outfit goes, you can see all the wrinkles sculpted throughout from the twisting the Goblin is doing as he readies his pumpkin bomb. You can see the back of the boots are very worn and dirty no doubt from all the exhaust coming from the glider. The back is bent and you can see all the wrinkles where the back muscles would be twisting during flying. The placement on the glider is very well done as it has to give you the feeling of not only flying, but clutching a weapon at the same time.
From the side you can see the rest of the green and purple costume. You get a good look at the satchel that the Goblin carries his pumpkin bombs in. It looks like a piece of real leather. Scuffed up and dirty a bright brown full of dark brown and black marking shaded into all the creases and folds. The buttons on it are a nice silver and it even has the black with silver button snap when the shoulder piece hooks. You can see the silver plating for protection on the knees right above the. You also get a great glimpse of the muscle sculpting as you can see the rib outline and delts under the purple singlet.
Here is a shot of the pumpkin Bomb. A small little Jack-o-Lantern complete with zig zag mouth that you can see is painted with a yellow and touch or orange to give it a lit up fire look. The pumpkin itself is sculpted in the traditional orange with black indent lines molded throughout to give it an authentic look. It even has a stem on it. You can see the “swoosh” of smoke coming from the back connecting to the Goblins hand as he has already thrown it, and it is currently in mid-air sailing towards its victim. This is a great little addition to the piece, really giving the Green Goblin a full design.
Here are a couple quick shot of the glider. You can see its done in bright almost metallic and speckled yet still with dings and dents molded in. The trademark wing design fully sticking up is in full effect and the nose. All the lines in the armor are exactly how they were in the comic book drawing and its lifted up and slightly to the side under the smoke design base to make it appear its flying. Even the boot stands are done perfectly where the goblins pointy purple boots rest. This glider has more of an old school robotic look the Hobgoblins winged horror glider. This is just a great duplication of the iconic glider Goblin flew, and actually ended up dying because of.
The base is a cloud of smoke from the tail pipe of the glider. It’s a huge cloud of fire and smoke but as you can see there are red, orange, and yellow blended with black and grey to show off not only the fire that illuminates from the engine but the smoke bellowing up as well. It’s almost pure yellow coming out of the engine but filters throughout the huge cloud turning the pure smoke color of black and orange to the bottom. It’s a great base for a great statue making it not only all one big piece but really making it look as if its flying. You have to insert the glider into this fire piece so by turning it you get a really great 3D look of actual flight. I have mine resting on the arm of Daredevil just for a bit of added support.
This is another fantastic piece from Diamond Select Toys it’s a perfect match for the classic Green Goblin and looks amazing by my Hobgoblin Statue, as well as around my other Marvel pieces. It’s a must have piece for your collection. Now it is a limited edition. Only 3000 piece were made so act fast so you don’t miss out. This is another winner from Diamond Select Toys.
