Captain Steven Grant "Steve" Rogers is a World War II veteran, a founding member of the Avengers, and Earth's first superhero. Rogers had suffered from numerous health problems, and upon America's entry into World War II, was rejected from the service within United States Army despite several attempts to enlist. Rogers was the only recipient of the Super Soldier Serum developed by Abraham Erskine under the Strategic Scientific Reserve. Determined to serve, Rogers ultimately volunteered for the Project Rebirth, which enhanced the frail Rogers' body to the peak of human physicality and was given the new moniker of Captain America.
I love Captain America. He’s always been a favorite of mine. The comics, the films, even the old arcade game, all classics to me. He’s the heart and soul of Marvel Comics. I have many Diamond Select Captain America statues, and this is top of the line quality right here as it's based off the classic comic book look
Lets get right to the face. Direct from the comic books, Diamond Select captures it perfectly. Shouting a battle cray no doubt of "Avengers Assemble", you can see the shaded lips as well as the pearly white teeth with the sculpting under the nose and around the mouth highlight the square jaw. The nose is a perfect match, as are the eyes. Steel blue and black. I like how they have them looking up at the sheild. It gives it a great almost stoic look. The helmet is fantastic. Bright blue with the big white A on it. The black shadows around the eye holes combined with the white wings on the side really brings out the colors, as well as the heroic look on the face. You get a great shot of all the work that went into the costume design here in the chest area. Blue with the big bright white star in the center of the chest. This is spot on compared to the movie version. The costume is done in elephant style I really like on these comic pieces You can see all the etching that went into the scales throughout the outfit. There not simply painted on, each one is actually sculpted into the outfit. You can feel them. I love the use of a bright blue and red respectfully as it really makes this piece shine in the light.
Moving further down you see the trademark red and white flag stripes around the abdominal area which is designed in the old school spandex style along with the leggings as opposed to the elephant style of the chest area. Notice how the white areas are shaded in a faint blue as opposed to standard black, that really brings everything together. Its such an amazing blend of colors that really stand out when on display. The boots and the pants look great the pants. Plys all the wrinkles throughout the spandex style pants look amazing. The black shading in the pants and boors really makes it come together I cant stress enough how good this looks in the light as it really has a shine to it that these photos don’t quiet capture. The bold bright colors all flow together so well.
This back and side shot shows off more of the outfit as well as the shield. Captain America doesn’t wear a cape so the get a view of the wrap around outfit. You also get a good look at the sheild. Big, bold, and bright. Red, white, and blue with a big shiny silver star in the center This is classic Cap with his trademark in full effect. I love how it's raised above Caps head to bring attention to it. Notice the lower back area. I like how its done to be bunched and slightly wrinkled to really accent the stretching of Caps hand as he lifts the sheild up. That combined with the placement of the legs really give it an almost 3D look to say the least. You can see the sculpting done throughout the body to help mimic the movement that Cap is going through
The base is essentially a stone monument of sorts. A grey almost copper color under the light. More of a marble look as opposed to stone, although you can see cracks and lines going throughout it. The old school American sheild symbol is carved right in the center with an american eagle on each side as well. Above the sheild are two stars, one on each side. This is a very patriotic base to say the least.
Overall this is a beautiful piece. It really captures not only the look but the spirit of Captain America as well. It's a perfect comic book likeness and a must for all Collectors. Pick one up today.
Overall 5 out of 5 Stars!
