The very skies tremble in his presence. He commands the mystical hammer Mjolnir to protect Asgard and Earth. He is the son of Odin, Prince of Asgard. He is the God of Thunder. He is Thor.
I've never been a huge reader of Thor comics. I basically only read him in team ups. I though the first film was ok at best. I actually hated the second film. However I absolutely loved Ragnarok. I like how they made him a bit more comical. He was great in the Avenger films as well. I have several statues representing him with the film look but never the comic style. That changed when I got this fantastic piece from Diamond Select Toys.
Let’s just go right to the head. From the blue eyes to the mouth with a battle cry this is a great recreation. I think I really like the eyes the best. They are a simple blue and black, but they way they are done, especially with the cheekbones semi flared really stand out. It looks as if it is actually staring at you. The helmet is spot on and man does it look bright and bold. Silver with slight black shading completely sculpted to match the comic version exactly. The lines and muscles in his neck and shoulder are visible on the left side where as the right shows where his red cape is attached to his armor. The cape is a more deep red with black shading completely sculpted to look wrinkled and blowing in the wind. You can also see the blond hair flowing from his helmet. Also take note of Thor's massive arm. Comic style but fully designed to be accurate in terms of muscle placement.
Looking at the body you can see the over exaggerated comic book style when it comes to the muscles. Thor is shredded to say the least . I always liked how the costume is very 60s trippy to say the least. The dark black spandex outfit with multiple blue circles on the chest complete with the yellow belt to break everything up. I like how the blue on the legs matches the blue circles on the chest. It makes everything flow together. Take notice of all the muscles that are sculpted underneath the outfit. I mean every single muscle in the human body is sticking out. He really is the comic book come to life. You can see every ab muscle, rib cage, chest, arms legs, hell his fingers have muscles. The shading used in the outfit is perfect and help to accentuate all of them.
This side shot gives you a great look at This Hammer. Bold and bright a combination of silver and gray its etched together to really look like the hammer from the comics. Throw in the grey almost brown wrapped handle and it looks incredibly realistic. Fully sculpted to perfection this is exactly like Mjoinir that we have seen in the books. Let me first point out the arm looks great. You can see all the muscles in the arms and forearms as well. Gigantic to say the least. Thor is a powerful character and this piece is really designed to show that off.
The back is pretty much cape. And that's cool because as you see in the front, the entire body is fully designed and it's visible from the side. The cap turns primarily to the right but us so massive in encompass the entire back, and it's etched to show every line where it would be blowing and moving in the real world. The bright red colors with dark red shaded in really makes the cape come alive.
The base is about as psychedelic as you get. A circular base painted in a variety of bright colors. Pink, blue, yellow, orange, and green, with a bit of an almost oak color and design at the bottom as well as the right side. This is one of the most attention grabbing bases I've ever seen. It's a colorful acid trip to say the least. It's vibrant and eye catching but not enough to take anything away from the piece itself.
This is a great piece and a must have for all Thor fans. I love the comic style statues and this is one of the best. Now this is a very limited piece. Only 3000 were made and it's sold out at most places. I found a few left on Amazon so act fast and get one today.
