 Mystique is a shapeshifter who can mimic the appearance and voice of any person with exquisite precision; her natural appearance includes blue skin and yellow eyes. Typically portrayed as a foe of the X-Men, Mystique has been a supervillain, founding her own Brotherhood of Mutants and assassinating several important people involved in mutant affairs; she has been stated to be over 100 years old. Mystique is the mother of the X-Men hero Nightcrawler and the villain Graydon Creed,] and the adoptive mother of the X-Men heroine Rogue. In 2009, Mystique was ranked as IGN's 18th Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time.  Mystique is a very cool character. In fact in terms of the X-Men films I would go on record and say she is the most compelling. She has a great look, fantastic powers, and as Marvel characters go she is pretty timeless. She’s become a staple of the X-men franchise so when Diamond Select Toys announced they were adding her to their resin line of X-men statues I knew I needed to pick her up. Before I get started I must say their line of Premier Collection Resin pieces are stunning to say the least. These are beautiful statues, but also limited so you need to pick them up fast.  I'm going to start with the face. It's perfect I can't say anything else. It looks like the drawing has come to life. From the lips to the eyes to even the eye lashes this is amazing on every level. Lips, nose, cheekbones you name it. It's perfectly sculpted and painted to look like a comic book drawing. The deep blue skin is a perfect match as are those yellow eyes. The eyes are a very deep yellow that really make her look like pure evil. You can see the sculpting done in the cheekbones as well as around the mouth to give it a bit of depth. This is comic book style as opposed to her film counterpart so this is a much sleeker piece. The ruby red lips are there as well. The shading is there but very minimal as this is a sleek style piece. I like how the right eyebrow lifts up to give it a menacing feel. The brownish red hair looks great. I enjoy how it is smooth like the comics but still filled with black etching to make it look almost real. This is a dead ringer for the comic book version.  Her body is done just like the comic style as well. Dressed in her original white outfit with the exposed blue skin everything is a match. I really like the gold skull belt, it gives it a more bold look that really pops out as opposed to a standard two color outfit. The body is anatomically correct but in an animated way. As opposed to seeing all the muscle lines what you have is a sleek statue of a woman. The curves are all there just in that comic book style. You can even see the lines in her outfit where it would be slightly bunched, or with sewing lines. It really is an exact match for the Marvel Comic Book counterpart. Another great thing to point out is the shading on this piece. The white outfit is close to a cream color so when combined with very faint black shading it helps to really bring out all of the wrinkles and sewing lines in the outfit itself.  This side shot give you a look at her laser gun. Its incredibly detailed. Brown, gold red and green all combined. Its being held in Mystique’s hand. You can see her individually sculpted fingers are wrapped around the handle while her index finger is ready to pull the trigger. I like had you can see all the wrinkles and bunches in the glove. This may be comic style but that’s just fine attention to detail. You even can see where her knuckles would be underneath the gloves. You get a great view of her skull belt as well. Each gold skull is individually sculpted and really helps bring a touch of color to this piece. The amount of detail that went into the wrinkles of the costume is astounding as this is a comic book style piece. Usually those are all completely smooth or with maybe one of two marks molded in. This is highly detailed and it really does look like cloth.  From the back you get to see more of the detail that went into her costume. The outfit is white but under this light you can see all of the faint black shading that went into it. You can also see how it is sculpted especially in her shoulder area and center of the back. Notice how the shading, and sculpting combined in the light show off how the outfit would be wrinkled as her hand rests on her leg. Also take note of not only the molding to give the arm area a bunched up look where her hand is resting on her leg. The hand is flexed, but still done in a resting manor. Notice the thicker wrinkled lines in the top of the forearm etched in. I can’t stress enough how much this really looks like a cloth piece. You can see her belt made of skulls going all the way around her waist. Her right foot planter firmly down, with the left pulled slightly back. It helped give it a “Fem Fatale” look.  The base is a simple rock formation that Mystique is standing on. Her right leg is placed higher on a bigger rock while her left is planted down below. Its great placement to help give the impression that she is waiting atop a mountain ready to strike. The details in the base are great. All of the rock formations are done separately. They are a reddish brown color with parts of green plant life mixed in to add some color to it. I really like the striped formation at the bottom. It helps to keep everything flowing together. As you can see even her boots have the wrinkles sculpted in where her toes would be pointing down as her foot is slightly raised.
If you’re an X-men fan or a Marvel collector this is a must have for your collection. Like I said though it is limited to 3000 pieces so you need to act fast.
