Midtown High School student Peter Benjamin Parker is a science-whiz orphan living with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. He is bitten by a radioactive spider at a science exhibit and "acquires the agility and proportionate strength of an arachnid". Along with heightened athletic abilities, Parker gains the ability to adhere to walls and ceilings. Through his native knack for science, he develops a gadget that lets him fire adhesive webbing of his own design through small, wrist-mounted barrels. Initially seeking to capitalize on his new abilities, Parker dons a costume and, as "Spider-Man", becomes a novelty television star. However, "He blithely ignores the chance to stop a fleeing thief, and his indifference ironically catches up with him when the same criminal later robs and kills his Uncle Ben." Spider-Man tracks and subdues the killer and learns, in the story's next-to-last caption, "With great power there must also come—great responsibility!"
These Legends in 3D Busts Diamond Select Diamond Select have been putting out are amazing. I love the fact they are just busts of my favorite characters. And when I saw Spider Man had one I had to open that one right up and put with my other Marvel items. For smaller head busts these have meticulous detail about them. They are limited only 1000 of these are made so after you read this review go order one. Or you can order one then read the review. Just don’t miss your chance.
This piece is more of the classic comic book look as opposed to the movie look. It looks fantastic to say the least. I love how its designed to have a leather almost spandex look like in the books. Bright red with white eyes. The deep black web lines painted throughout the eye holes really brings out the colors, as well as the heroic look on the face. I love the shading of the two types of red combined with the black to give it that real comic look. The color is done perfectly, with just slightly darker black around the pure white eyes. The eyes are a bold black thick outline with a pure in parts almost satin white color that really feel like they are looking at you. A strong jaw with slight indent lines around the sides of the lips to give it a touch more realism. The placement of the head to the side really gives it a heroic look. The costume is made of a simple spandex in the books to hide SpiderMans identity when he’s fighting the bad guys, and this really nails it. You can see all the etching that went into this if you look closely. The markings are like real stiches throughout the outfit. There not simply painted on, each one is actually sculpted into the piece itself. I cant stress how much I love all the little details that went into a simply three color design. I mean its sculpted to be one large outfit as Spidey wear a simply one piece costume. Even though there is no color separation between the head and chest this almost has a contrast to it to break it up. It’s a perfect replica of the old comic books.
From the back you a really good look at the detail that went into the web etching. You can see the hundreds upon hundreds of design etching and stich marks going throughout it. You can even see where the ear sticks out, and you can tell that it was sculpted as realistic as possible. I mean yes this is based off a comic book drawing but it still looks real. Note that by the ear, the base of the neck, and the center of the head you can see all the lines where the outfit would have been stitched together. Its bold and bright and it just flows evenly.
Finally we get to the base. Which is only fitting that it’s a pillar. A grey almost brown roman style pillar complete with sculpted Its all scuffed to give it a classic almost dirty look to it. Shaded and etched in a faded grey, almost slight black in spots it really has a classic look about it. But the real sell point is the fact its covered in webbing. I mean this is Spidey for God sakes. It has to have webbing in it. The design is great sprayed and stretched throughout the pillar itself in a dirty pale grey as opposed to a solid white. You can see ever net, knot, and stretch going throughout it. This is a very fitting base for then Web Slinger . I love how these Legends Busts have very detailed bases but they are kept very small as to take nothing away from the bust itself.
This is another magnificent Legends of 3D Bust from Diamond Select Toys that I can’t recommend enough. I have it next to my Captain America and Black Panther Busts and it looks great. Like I stated above there are only 1000 of these out there so act fast. I highly recommend picking one up today.
Overall 5 out of 5 Stars!
