Deadpool is a fictional character appearing in Marvel Comics. Created by writer Fabian Nicieza and artist/writer Rob Liefeld, the character first appeared in The New Mutants #98 Initially Deadpool was depicted as a supervillain when he made his first appearance in The New Mutants and later in issues of X-Force, but later evolved into his more recognizable antiheroic persona. Deadpool, whose real name is Wade Winston Wilson, is a disfigured mercenary with the superhuman ability of an accelerated healing factor and physical prowess. The character is known as the "Merc with a Mouth" because of his tendency to talk and joke constantly, including breaking the fourth wall for humorous effect and running gags.

Although not a regular on the X-Men Animated Series Deadpool did make a cameo. One time I believe. But as he is a staple in the X-Men world it was only fitting to give him an X-Men animated bust. The X-Men animated series was a smash hit and a staple of 90’s cartoons. It ran for 5 seasons and is still watched by millions of people today via streaming and DVD. It was an amazing cartoon and I was excited when Diamond Select announced they were making animated busts off the series. I was even more excited when I saw Deadpool would be getting his own piece as well.

Here he is. Now forgive me upfront for this being a short review. Its just that as these are based on the animated likeness there’s not a lot of variation in terms of shading and sculpting. You can see the trademark red and black costume in full effect. I like how they took a grey, almost white color stoke to the cheeks, chest, ribs, and biceps to give it a sort of three dimensional look in parts. You can see the bright red costume with the black around the ribs, biceps, and for eye holes just like in the comics. The black eye holes have a tiny swash by where the nose would be to give it a frowned style look. The eye holes are pure white like in the books. The are a few hints of faint red mixed into the deep red, combined with the grey streaks to really give it a cartoon look and feel. This is a pot on match for the animated counterpart. I know that because I watched the episode before I wrote this. The body looks good as well all designed and painted to show off the comic book style muscles in the chest, ribs, and abs. You can also see Deadpool’s belt done in a brighter almost candy apple red to help separate it from the rest of the outfit with his big grey belt buckle.

This side shot shows off his gun. Which is almost a hand cannon. Its grey but like the rest of the piece done with faint grey swashes to make it look animated. Its pretty detailed for a cartoon style gun. From the handles, clips, triggers and sensors its all molded in smooth then painted a sleek dark grey. You can see Deadpool’s fingers have the little black outlines like a cartoon drawing and his finger is wrapped around the trigger ready to fire. I like the addition of the black thin lines by the elbow and bicep as well to mark it all out and give it a muscle feel. The bullets around the bicep are done in a very faint gold, almost a pale brown and have a touch of the black shading to give them a bit of depth. The wrists look good as well with the “Ringed” look they have about them. If you look at the head you can see that trademark black line to show where the jawline would end. I also like that splash of the white grey under the shoulders to help break the outfit up

The base is a simple faint purple cog. It has 6 leggings around the pattern to make it stand out a bit. Its done in a etched fashion with circular lines going up and down throughout the body of it. It almost looks like it could be a piece from the Danger Room. It matches the other bases of this animated line. Its simple and effective just like this piece itself. It’s a perfect addition for any Deadpool collector, or fans of the X-Men Animated Series. It looks fantastic and as its limited to only 3000 pieces you better act fast and grab one while you still can.

Overall 5 out of 5 Stars!
